In the Elliott era, which began in 1992, they have been known as simply “the Sens”, a play on words from French “les Sénateurs”.
The franchise was founded and first operated by Ottawa real estate developer Bruce Firestone. The team’s official colours are red and black, with white accents. The club’s principal ownership group is composed of senators Eugene Melnyk and Cyril Leeder, with Jim Little as president and CEO. Tom Ansell is chairman of their board of governors; while Pierre Dorion is their general manager.
Winnipeg Jets

The Jets began play as the Atlanta Thrashers in 1999. True North acquired the Thrashers in May 2011 and relocated the franchise to Winnipeg on July 1, 2011. The Jets name returned to Winnipeg for the first time since 1996, when it was shared by two former World Hockey Association (WHA) teams, including Winnipeg’s original Jets.
