What Are The Divisions In Baseball?
If you’re a baseball fan, you know that there are two leagues in the MLB – the American League and the National League. But did you know that each league is further divided into three divisions? In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the divisions in baseball and what teams are in each one.
American League
The American League is one of two major leagues in professional baseball in the United States and Canada, the other being the National League. It was founded in 1901 as the successor to the Western League, which had started in 1893. It is one of three major leagues in Major League Baseball.
East
The American League (AL) East is one of three divisions in Major League Baseball’s (MLB) American League. The division was created when MLB realigned itself into two divisions after the 1971 season, with the Western Division becoming the other. It has been one of baseball’s eight divisions ever since.
There are currently five teams in the AL East: the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Toronto Blue Jays. All five teams play their home games in cities located in the Eastern Time Zone.
The AL East has historically been one of baseball’s most competitive and well-balanced divisions. From 1969 to 1993, only four teams won the AL East title: the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and New York Yankees. Since 1994, however, eleven different teams have won the division title.
The AL East is also home to some of baseball’s most iconic rivalries, such as the Orioles-Yankees rivalry and the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.
Central
The AL Central is one of the six divisions in Major League Baseball (MLB). It was created in 1994 when MLB realigned itself into three divisions in each league. The AL Central is made up of five teams: the Chicago White Sox, the Cleveland Indians, the Detroit Tigers, the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins.
West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball’s six divisions. This division was created in 1994, when the American League expanded from 14 to 15 teams with the addition of the then-Anaheim Angels (now Los Angeles Angels). The AL West consists of five teams in California and Texas.
National League
The National League of Major League Baseball is one of the two leagues that make up Major League Baseball in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1876, the National League originally consisted of ten teams.
East
The East Division is one of the three divisions of the National League of Major League Baseball in North America. Along with the Central Division and the West Division, it is one of the two divisions that make up each league.
Central
The Central Division of the National League is made up of the following teams: Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and St. Louis Cardinals.
West
The Western Division is one of the two divisions of Major League Baseball’s National League. The division consists of five teams in the westernmost contiguous states of the United States: the Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants.
