The CFC was an initiative of the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union (IRFU), which had been created on October 26, 1953, originally consisting of four Ontario teams and four Quebec teams. At the time, Canada had two professional football leagues: the IRFU’sInterprovincial Rugby Football Union and the Western Interprovincial Football Union (WIFU). Both these leagues used a double-elimination playoff format to determine their champion—the Grey Cup—although either could also declare itself champion by winning both regular season games against opponents from the other league. The WIFU’s championship game was between its top two teams while the ORFU’s championship game was between its top three teams; this meant that either one or two strong ORFU squads were left out of playoff contention each season as compared to just one WIFU squad. As a result, Byzantine playoff formats were adopted as neither league would agree on a single format; this eventually led to dissolution of both leagues and their reformation into a single league with representation from both former leagues’ cities: namely, Toronto (ORFU), Montreal (ORFU), Winnipeg (WIFU), Hamilton (ORFU), Saskatchewan (WIFU).

The Indoor Football League (IFL) is a professional football league that began play in 2000. The IFL is currently made up of eight teams, all of which are located in the United States. The league is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

The IFL plays a 16-game regular season schedule, with each team playing eight home and eight away games. The regular season typically runs from late February to early June. The top four teams in the league standings qualify for the playoffs, which are held in June.

The IFL has a number of unique features, including a rule that allows each team to have two extra players on the field during play; this is known as the “double-wide receiver rule.” The league also uses a smaller field than most professional football leagues, measuring 50 yards by 25 yards.

Arena Football League

The Arena Football League (AFL) is a professional indoor American football league in the United States. It was founded in 1987, making it the youngest of the “big four” major professional sports leagues. The AFL plays a proprietary code known as arena football, a form of indoor American football on a smaller field than standard American football. The sport was invented in the early 1880s by James F. Foster, Jr., C. C. Pyle, and Harry Young, and patented in 1987.[5][6] The rival Indoor Football League (IFL) was founded in 1999.

When the AFL was founded in 1987, it was the first minor league for the sport of Arena Football. The league began with eight teams that each played two exhibition games before participating in a four-team playoff to crown a league champion. In order to attract fans to see these new teams play professional football indoors, every team had at least one player with previous outdoor professional football experience on their rosters. Even though several players were signed from other outdoor leagues like the Canadian Football League (CFL) and United States Football League (USFL), most of the players were signed fromNFL rosters.[7]

The first season for the new league was held in 1988.[8] Each team played ten games over an eleven-week schedule that began on June 19 and ended on August 27.The playoffs consisted of four team semifinal games that were held on August 28 and 29, and then the ArenaBowl on September 2 between the top two seeds.
