The Atlantic Division is currently led by the Toronto Raptors, who are in first place with a record of 44-17. The Raptors are followed by the Celtics (42-19), 76ers (40-21), and Knicks (28-33).
Central Division
The Central Division is a division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division was created at the start of the 1970–71 NBA season when the league expanded from 14 to 17 teams with the addition of the Buffalo Braves, Cleveland Cavaliers and Portland Trail Blazers. Its original members were the Atlanta Hawks, Baltimore Bullets (now Washington Wizards), Cincinnati Royals (now Sacramento Kings), Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Pittsburgh Pipers (later the Minnesota Pipers).
The Hickory Highs won the inaugural division title with a 48–22 record. The Royals went on to win two more division titles before joining the Western Conference in 1974 following that season’s expansion. The Pistons then won consecutive titles in 1988 and 1989. The Cavaliers have won six division championships (1976, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2017), while the Bucks have five (1971, 1974, 1976, 1980 and 2001). The Bulls have four division championships (2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014), while the Pacers have three (1998–99, 2003–04 and 2004–05). The Heat have two division championships (1997–98 and 2005–06), while the Knicks and Spurs each have one.
Southeast Division
The Southeast Division is a division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams: the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and Washington Wizards. All five teams are based in the southeastern United States.
The Southeast Division was formed in 2004 as part of the NBA’s realignment plan. At that time, the Charlotte Hornets were relocating from North Carolina to New Orleans, Louisiana, and were renamed the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. As a result of the realignment, the then-current Atlanta Hawks franchise was moved from the Central Division to the Southeast Division.
In 2013, as part of another NBA realignment plan, the Charlotte Bobcats were renamed to their original name of Charlotte Hornets and became a Southeast Division team again. Consequently, the New Orleans franchise was renamed to its present title: New Orleans Pelicans.
As of 2019, none of the current Southeast Division teams have won an NBA championship. The Miami Heat have appeared in five NBA Finals (winning three), while the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards have both made one appearance apiece.
