American League

The American League of Major League Baseball (MLB) is one of two leagues that make up the sport of baseball in the United States and Canada. It developed from the Western League, a minor league formed in 1893 that later became the American Association. It consists of 14 teams in the United States: nine in the East Division and five in the West Division.

East

The American League East is one of Major League Baseball’s six divisions. The East includes five teams in the northeastern United States: the Baltimore Orioles; the Boston Red Sox; the New York Yankees; the Tampa Bay Rays; and the Toronto Blue Jays.

West

1. Houston Astros – The Houston Astros have the best record in baseball at 106-56. They have clinched their division and have the home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
2. Oakland Athletics – The Oakland Athletics are in second place in the West with a 97-65 record. They have clinched a spot in the playoffs and will play the Wild Card Game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
3. Los Angeles Angels – The Los Angeles Angels are in third place in the West with a 89-73 record. They have been eliminated from playoff contention.
4. Seattle Mariners – The Seattle Mariners are in fourth place in the West with an 86-76 record. They have been eliminated from playoff contention.
5. Texas Rangers – The Texas Rangers are in fifth place in the West with a 78-84 record. They have been eliminated from playoff contention.

National League

The National League of Major League Baseball is made up of 15 teams split into three divisions: the East, the Central, and the West. These teams play a total of 162 regular season games each year. The regular season is followed by the playoffs, which lead to the World Series – the championship of Major League Baseball.

East

The East division of the National League was created in 1969 when Major League Baseball realigned its two leagues from the former West, East, and Central divisions to the current East, Central, and West divisions. The East division currently consists of five teams: the Atlanta Braves, the Miami Marlins, the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Washington Nationals.
