What Baseball Player Am I?

Take our quiz to find out which baseball player you are!

Introduction

Can you name the baseball player by his stat line?

How to Play

This game is simple. All you need is a piece of paper and a pencil. Write down the name of a baseball player on the paper. It can be any player, from any team, past or present. Once you have the name of the player, fold the paper until only the name is showing and pass it to the person next to you. That person will then write down three clues about the player. The next person will read the clues and try to guess the player. If they can’t guess, they can ask for more clues. The game continues until the player guessing correctly.

Choose a player

First, choose a player from one of the 30 Major League Baseball teams. Once you have chosen a player, answer the questions below to see which current MLB player you are most similar to!

Compare stats

One way to compare baseball players is to look at their stats. Statistics are a way of objectively comparing players (or teams) against each other. In baseball, there are two main types of statistics:
-Batting statistics, which measure a player’s performance at bat
-Pitching statistics, which measure a player’s performance on the mound

Players are usually compared against others who play the same position. For example, you wouldn’t compare a pitcher’s stats to a catcher’s stats. Instead, you would compare pitchers to other pitchers, and catchers to other catchers.

There are many different batting and pitching statistics, but here are some of the most important ones:

Batting Statistics
– batting average: the number of hits divided by the number of at bats. The batting average is a good way to measure a hitter’s consistency. The higher the batting average, the more likely it is that a hitter will get a hit when he comes to bat.
– slugging percentage: the total number of bases divided by the number of at bats. The slugging percentage is a good way to measure a hitter’s power. The higher the slugging percentage, the more likely it is that a hitter will hit for extra bases (such as a double or home run).

Pitching Statistics
– earned run average (ERA): the number of earned runs divided by the number of innings pitched. The ERA is a good way to measure how effective a pitcher is at keeping runs from scoring. The lower the ERA, the better.
– strikeouts per nine innings pitched: The number of strikeouts divided by the number of innings pitched and multiplied by 9. This stat is a good way to measure how effective a pitcher is at striking batters out.
