We all know that professional baseball players can make a lot of money. But just how much do they make? We did some research to find out which player makes the most money in baseball.

The Highest Paid Player in MLB

In 2019, the average Major League Baseball player made $4.36 million, a record high. But that’s just an average. The top-paid player in MLB made more than $33 million. Who was that player?

It was none other than Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout, who signed a record-setting 12-year, $426.5 million contract extension in March 2019. Trout is baseball’s first $400 million man.

While Trout’s record contract is mind-boggling, it’s actually not that far out of line with what other top MLB players are making these days. In 2018, the top 10 highest-paid MLB players all made more than $20 million, with most of them making more than $30 million.

As the baseball season comes to a close, we take a look at the highest paid player at each position. These are the guys that make the big bucks and carry their teams throughout the season.

Catcher: Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants
Buster Posey is in the midst of a 9-year, $167 million contract extension he signed back in 2013. The extension will keep him in a Giants uniform until he’s 37 years old. Posey is currently 30 years old and is considered one of the best all-around catchers in baseball.

First Base: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers
Miguel Cabrera is still owed $194 million over the next six seasons as part of an 8-year, $248 million contract extension he signed back in 2014. Cabrera is 34 years old and has already won two MVP awards and four batting titles during his career.

Second Base: Robinson Cano, Seattle Mariners
Robinson Cano is in the midst of a 10-year, $240 million contract he signed with the Seattle Mariners back in 2013. Cano is 34 years old and considered one of the best second basemen in baseball. He’s already won one World Series and two Gold Glove awards during his career.

Shortstop: Troy Tulowitzki, Toronto Blue Jays
Troy Tulowitzki is owed $58 million over the next three seasons as part of an 8-year, $134 million contract extension he signed back in 2011. Tulowitzki is 31 years old and considered one of the best all-around shortstops in baseball. He’s already won two Gold Glove awards and was named an All-Star five times during his career.

Third Base: Miguel Sano, Minnesota Twins
Miguel Sano is still owed $35 million over the next four seasons as part of an 8-year, $30 million contract extension he signed back in 2014. Sano is only 24 years old but already considered one of the best young third basemen in baseball.
