What Baseball Team Changed Their Name?

In 1892, the Cincinnati Reds were known as the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The team changed its name to the Cincinnati Reds in 1891.

The Cleveland Indians

In January of 1914, the Cleveland Baseball Club changed their name to the Cleveland Naps in honor of their star player and manager, Napoleon Lajoie. The team kept the name until 1915, when they went back to being called the Indians. The name change was in response to a new owner who wanted to distance himself from the former owner, who had been unpopular with fans.

The Atlanta Braves

In 1912, the team was known as the Boston Braves, before moving to Milwaukee in 1953 and then to Atlanta in 1966. The team changed its name to the Atlanta Braves in 2017.

The White Sox lost the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds and did not appear again in a Fall Classic until 1959, when they were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers four games to two. They also participated in the 1990 World Series by virtue of winning the AL West championship that year; they were swept by the eventual world champion Oakland Athletics in that series four games to none.

The Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles are a Major League Baseball team that plays in the American League East Division. The team is based in Baltimore, Maryland. They were originally known as the Milwaukee Brewers, but changed their name to the Baltimore Orioles in 1954.
