The Red Raiders began play in 1947 and have appeared in 11 NCAA Tournaments, including nine consecutive appearances from 1995 to 2003. In 2018, they qualified for their first ever College World Series.

The Red Raiders played their home games at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park, and were led by head coach Tim Tadlock, in his seventh season. They finished the season 43–20 overall and 18–11 in Big 12 play to finish tied for third place. They qualified for the Big 12 Baseball Tournament where they were defeated by Baylor in the semifinals. They earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament as the #2 seed in the Houston Regional. In the Regional, they defeated Army, but lost twice to top-seeded Baylor to be eliminated from regional play.
