NFL Games on Television

The National Football League (NFL) regular season begins on Thursday, September 10. NFL games will be broadcast on various television channels, including CBS, FOX, NBC, and ESPN. Here is the full schedule for NFL games on television for the opening week of the regular season.

National Television Schedule

The National Football League has the exclusive right to televise its games on over-the-air broadcast television stations in the United States (including Puerto Rico). Consequently, NFL football games are not carried on satellite television in the U.S. However, if a game is sold out and not subject to a local blackout, it will be available as an “NFL Sunday Ticket” service on DirecTV. Numerous other countries also televise NFL games.

In the United States, NFL games are broadcast on both English and Spanish language television networks. The vast majority ofNFL games are televised on one of five national broadcast networks: CBS, ESPN, FOX, NBC, and the NFL Network. Occasionally, certain games will air on ABC as part of the network’s package of Monday Night Football games; this typically occurs if there is a doubleheader featuring two NFC teams (as NFC teams can only appear on FOX or NBC during the regular season). Saturday night games that air on NFL Network are simulcast on a local station in each market; these broadcasts are not subject to blackout rules.

On occasion, the NFL will also televise a “International Series” game from London’s Wembley Stadium; these broadcasts air live in all markets except where another live game is already scheduled for that time slot. In those cases, the London game is moved to an overflow channel (such as ESPN2) or tape-delayed until after the conclusion of the other game(s).
