The Basics of the BAA
The BAA was founded in 1946 as the first professional basketball league in the United States. The BAA was a response to the popularity of college basketball and the need for a professional league to compete with it. The BAA was also intended to be a more mainstream alternative to the NBL, which was seen as being too “black” and “regional.” The BAA’s inaugural season featured 11 teams, including the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Philadelphia Warriors. The league quickly became successful and was able to sign some of the best players in the country, including George Mikan, Dolph Schayes, and Bob Cousy. In 1949, the BAA merged with the NBL to form the NBA.
The Benefits of the BAA
The BAA, or the Baseball Association of America, was the predecessor to the modern day MLB, or Major League Baseball. The BAA was formed in 1903 and played its first season in 1901. It consisted of 8 teams, all of which were located in the northeastern United States. The BAA only lasted for 12 seasons before it merged with the National League to form what we now know as Major League Baseball. Although it only lasted for a short time, the BAA was responsible for several innovations that have become commonplace in baseball today.

The BAA, or baseball’s amateur draft, is an opportunity for young men to be drafted and signed by a Major League Baseball team. It was created in 1965 as a way to keep small-market teams competitive by allowing them to stockpile young talent. The draft is held every June, and each team has the option of selecting any eligible player who has not already been drafted by another team.
