Introduction
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the premier professional basketball league in the United States and Canada. The NBA is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues, along with Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Hockey League (NHL).
Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference is one of the two conferences in the National Basketball Association (NBA), the other being the Western Conference. Like the Western Conference, the Eastern Conference is made up of 15 teams, organized in three divisions.
The current divisional alignment was introduced for the 2004–05 season, when the now Charlotte Hornets began play as the NBA’s 30th franchise. Before that season, the Eastern Conference was made up of fourteen teams in two divisions; at that time it was also referred to as the Eastern Division.
The conference currently has nine teams that have won an NBA title: Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers (then- Syracuse Nationals), Washington Bullets / Wizards (then-Baltimore Bullets), Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors.
Western Conference
The Western Conference is one of the two conferences in the NBA. The current Western Conference champions are the Los Angeles Lakers.
