Introduction
Bren Esports is a Philippine professional esports organization founded in April 2019. The organization has teams competing in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and League of Legends.
Bren Esports was founded in April 2019 by CEO Vincent “Vince” Tan and COO Paul Cheng. The organization’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team is composed of former players from the Filipino team Mineski, who Bren Esports signed in May 2019. In June 2019, the organization signed its first League of Legends roster, which included former world champion Bae “Bang” Jun-sik.
Bren Esports won its first tournament at the M1 World Championship in December 2019. The organization’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team became the first Filipino team to win a world championship.
In January 2020, Bren Esports signed two-time world champion Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok to its League of Legends roster. Faker joined his former SK Telecom T1 teammate Bae “Bang” Jun-sik on the Bren Esports roster.
In March 2020, Bren Esports was one of eight teams invited to compete in the newly formed Pacific Championship Series (PCS), a regional league for Southeast Asia that would replace the GPL and LMS.
However, on April 13th, it was announced that due to unforeseen circumstances, Bren Esports would have to pull out from competing in the PCS and would be replaced by Machi Esports. Machi Esports went on to win the inaugural PCS split.
It is currently unknown why Bren Esports had to pull out from the PCS or what their current status is as an organization.
The Downfall of Bren Esports
Bren Esports was one of the most promising teams in the Philippines, with a win at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines 2020 Season 1. However, they have recently disbanded due to financial difficulties.
Lack of Communication
When Bren Esports disbanded in late 2019, it was a move that shocked the mobile esports world. The team had been one of the most successful in the scene, with multiple tournament wins under their belt. So, what happened?
According to former Bren Esports CEO and co-founder, Paul “Bear” Smith, the organization’s downfall was due to a lack of communication within the team. In an interview with The esports Observer, Smith said that “the org just failed to keep up communication with the players, which led to personal issues and then eventually just disbanding of the whole roster.”
Bren Esports was founded in April 2018 and quickly rose to prominence in the mobile esports scene. The team won several tournaments, including the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 3 and 4. However, internal disagreements led to the team’s dissolution in December 2019.
Poor Management
Bren Esports is a professional esports organization based in the Philippines. The organization was founded in April 2016 by CEO, Ralph Sison. The team is notable for their success in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, winning five international tournaments and placing in the top three of fourteen others. They are also the first team to win two back-to-back World Championships in MPL Philippines.
However, on November 2019, the team had to let go of their CEO and COO due to financial difficulties. In an interview with Inquirer.net, Sison said that “the decision was made because of the company’s current financial situation.” This was later confirmed by Bren’s head of operations, Paolo Rodriguez, who said that they are “currently facing some financial challenges.”
The organization has been facing many issues ever since, with rumors of their players not being paid on time or not being paid at all. Bren Esports has also lost a considerable amount of sponsorships, which further contributed to their financial struggles. In May 2020, it was reported that Bren Esports was unable to pay their players for three months straight. These reports were later confirmed by the players themselves via social media.
As a result of these issues, many of Bren’s players have decided to leave the organization. Notable players who have left include Ernie (the first two-time World Champion in MLBB), hades (the reigning MPL Philippines Season 6 Champion), and KarlTzy (the 2017 MPL Philippines Season 1 Champion). Other players have also followed suit, leading to a mass exodus from the once-successful organization.
With all these problems plaguing Bren Esports, it is uncertain if they will be able to recover and return to their former glory. Only time will tell if they will be able to turn things around or if they will continue to decline until they eventually disband.
Lack of Professionalism
Since Bren Esports’ poor showing at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League-Philippines Season 4, the once dominant team has been on a decline. With many internal and external problems, Bren Esports is now a shell of its former self. In this article, we’ll take a look at what exactly happened to Bren Esports and try to answer the question – what went wrong?
Bren Esports was once the undisputed best team in the Philippines. They have won almost every tournament they have participated in and were even invited to compete in international tournaments. However, everything changed when they placed 9th-12th place at the MPL-PH Season 4.
Many people attribute Bren Esports’ decline to their poor performance at the MPL-PH Season 4. After all, it was their worst placement in a major tournament ever. However, there are other factors that contributed to their decline as well.
First and foremost, their lack of professionalism is one of the main reasons why Bren Esports is struggling right now. After their poor showing at the MPL-PH Season 4, some of their players were caught partying and drinking instead of practicing. This led to many people questioning their dedication to the game and whether or not they still had what it takes to compete at a high level.
Secondly, another reason why Bren Esports has been struggling is because of the departure of their longtime leader and shot caller Miggie “Ymir” Anthony Gonzalez back in November 2019. Ymir was with Bren Esports since its inception and was one of the main reasons why they were so successful in the early days. His departure left a big void in the team that has yet to be filled.
Lastly, another factor that contributed to Bren Esports’ decline is the recent change in meta. The new meta favors mechanically skilled players and teams that are able to rotate quickly around the map. Unfortunately, Bren Esports’ current roster does not have any mechanically skilled players and they are often times slow to rotate around the map. This has led to them often getting flanked and picked off easily by other teams.
All in all, there are many reasons why Bren Esports has been struggling as of late. Their lack of professionalism, departure of key player Ymir, and inability to adapt to the new meta are just some of the main reasons why they are no longer one of the best teams in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League-Philippines
Conclusion
It is clear that Bren Esports has struggled to find their footing in the past few months. They have made some questionable roster changes, and their performance has suffered as a result. However, they are still a young team with a lot of potential. Only time will tell if they will be able to rebound from this slump and reach the level of success that they are capable of.
