If you’re a fan of WWE, you may have noticed that JBL has been absent from television for a while now. So, what happened to JBL in WWE?
JBL’s final WWE run
JBL had a successful final WWE run, ultimately winning the WWE Championship. However, his contract was not renewed and he was released from the company. JBL has not been seen in WWE since.
JBL’s final WWE match
On October 7, 2017, at the SmackDown-exclusive pay-per-view No Mercy, JBL wrestled his final match against fellow commentator Mauro Ranallo in a losing effort. The following night on SmackDown, after Ranallo had been attacked backstage by an unknown assailant, JBL teased that he may have had something to do with the attack before denying it. Despite this, he was apprehended by police as a suspect for the crime and was released on bail. The following week on SmackDown, it was revealed that WWE had suspended JBL indefinitely due to the incident with Ranallo. On November 15, 2017, WWE announced that JBL had been released from his contract.

In his final WWE promo, JBL cut a passionate promo about how the fans had never appreciated him and how he was the best wrestler in the world. He said that the fans would never see him again and that they would never forget him.
JBL’s post-WWE career
After leaving WWE in 2017, JBL has kept a relatively low profile. He’s made a few appearances on other wrestling shows, but mostly seems to be enjoying his retirement. JBL has also been working as a commentator for FOX Sports.
JBL’s new job
In mid-March 2008, it was announced that Layfield would serve as a financial analyst for Fox News. At first, he appeared on Neil Cavuto’s show, Your World. He made his debut on Fox Business Network on October 27, 2008, appearing frequently on The Cost of Freedom and Cavuto on Business. In 2009, he became a regular panelist on the Fox Business program Cashin’ In. Layfield “will offer up his own brand of economic expertise and analysis”, according to a network press release.
In January 2009, it was announced that Layfield would also be appearing on Yahoo! Finance’s new web show Breakout every weekday afternoon. His debut appearance was on February 2, 2009.
In May 2009, Layfield was picked to be one of the three rotating hosts for Monday Night Raw in WWE’s new commentary team along with Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler.
JBL’s new podcast
John Bradshaw Layfield, aka JBL, is a former WWE Superstar, commentator and now a successful entrepreneur. He’s currently the co-host of the highly popular podcast “Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard.”
JBL had a very successful career in WWE. He was a one-time WWE Champion and a two-time Intercontinental Champion. He was also a member of the APA (Bradshaw and Faarooq), one of the most popular tag teams in WWE history.
After leaving WWE in 2017, JBL continued to be involved in the wrestling business. He started his own podcast, which quickly became one of the most popular wrestling podcasts on iTunes. He’s also appeared on numerous other podcasts, including Stone Cold Steve Austin’s “The Steve Austin Show” and Chris Jericho’s “Talk is Jericho.”
In addition to his podcasting work, JBL has also launched his own clothing line, called “The JBL Collection.” The line includes t-shirts, hats and other apparel with JBL’s signature style.
What happened to JBL in WWE?
JBL was a top star in WWE for many years, but he suddenly disappeared from television in 2009. Many fans have wondered what happened to him. JBL was released from his WWE contract in 2014, but he has made sporadic appearances since then.
JBL’s WWE release
On April 22, 2017, it was reported that WWE had come to terms on the release of JBL, effectively immediately. The following day, WWE officially confirmed that Layfield had been released.
JBL’s WWE Hall of Fame status
As of right now, JBL is not a member of the WWE Hall of Fame. His time as a commentator has made many people believe that he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame eventually, but that has not happened yet. There is no word on when or if JBL will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
