WWE releases Mickie James
On April 22, 2010, WWE announced that it had released Mickie James from her contract. James had been with the company for five years, and was a former Women’s Champion. Her release came as a surprise to many fans, as she was still an active member of the WWE roster.

WWE releases statement on Mickie James’ release
“Today, WWE released Mickie James from her contract. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” WWE said in a statement to the Orlando Sentinel.
Mickie James signed with WWE in October 2005 and made her main roster debut the following year. She won the Women’s Championship in December 2006 and held it for five months. She also held the WWE Divas Championship in 2008 and 2010.
Mickie James’ career prior to her release
Prior to her release from WWE, Mickie James was one of the most popular Divas in the company. She was a five-time Women’s Champion and had a lengthy feud with Trish Stratus. Mickie was also the first Diva to hold both the Women’s and Divas’ Championships at the same time.

James made her debut in WWE in 2005, and quickly became one of the most popular Divas in the company. She won her first Women’s Championship in 2006, and went on to have feuds with some of the biggest names in WWE, including Trish Stratus and Lita.
James was released by WWE in 2010, but returned to the company in 2016. She won the Women’s Championship for a fifth time in 2017, but was then released again in 2018.
Mickie James’ time in TNA
James began working for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in September 2003, using the name Alexis Laree. She made her debut on the September 18, 2003 episode of NWA:TNA Xplosion, defeating Trinity. Laree wrestled sporadically for the company until May 2004. In June, she competed in a tag team match alongside Matt Bentley against Glenn Gilberti and Trinity, which was part of an angle in which Bentley turned heel and joined The Diamonds in the Rough stable. On the July 1 episode of Xplosion, Laree defeated Desire. On the November 17 episode of Impact!, then known as NWA:TNA iMPACT!, Laree teamed with Trinity to defeat Daffney and Raven in a tag team bra and panties match.
Laree returned to TNA in February 2006 at Against All Odds, participating in a 10-Knockout Gauntlet match to determine the number one contender to the TNA Women’s Knockout Championship won by Gail Kim. The following month at Destination X, Laree defeated both Jackie Moore and Gail Kim in a three-way match to win the TNA Women’s Knockout Championship for the first time. After holding the title for two months, she lost it to Awesome Kong at Slammiversary on April 19/May 10 double edition of Impact!.
