What Is Ad Court In Tennis?
Contents
Ad court is one of the two halves of a tennis court. It is the half of the court that contains the ad (advantage) line, which is used to determine whether a player has the advantage or not. The other half of the court is the deuce court.
What is Ad Court?
Ad court is the left side of the tennis court when viewed from the player’s perspective. The ad court is also known as deuce court.
The ad court gets its name from the scoring system used in tennis. In tennis, scores are tallied using a system of odd and even numbers. The score is “love” when both players have zero points, “15” when one player has one point, “30” when one player has two points, and so on. The score goes up to “40,” which is normally when one player will win the game. However, if both players have 40 points (called “deuce”), then the next point will go to whichever player wins it (this is called an “advantage”). If a player wins the next point after an advantage, they win the game; however, if they lose that point, then the score goes back to “deuce.” That’s why this side of the court is known as ad court: because it’s the side of the court where you can gain or lose an advantage.
Advantage or not, winning or losing, every game starts with a serve from ad court. In tennis, each player serves twice in a row before switching sides and allowing their opponent to serve twice in a row. This means that each player will always start their service games from ad court.
The Significance of Ad Court
In tennis, the ad court is the court on the player’s right-hand side from their perspective when they are serving. It derives its name from the advertising that is typically present on or near that side of the court. The ad court is significant because the player who wins more points in that court during a match is generally more likely to win the match overall.
Why is Ad Court Important?
If you are playing a game of tennis, it is important to know where the ad court is. The ad court is the right side of the tennis court for both singles and doubles play. The deuce court is the left side. Knowing which court you are supposed to hit the ball into during different parts of the game can help you score points and win the match.
How to Use Ad Court
Ad court is one of the two service courts in tennis, so named because the server stands in the backcourt at the deuce end of the court during odd-numbered games. (The other is known as deuce court.) When receiving service at ad court, the player stands in the same backcourt area.
When serving from ad court, the player tosses the ball and then hits it into either the deuce or ad service box. If the ball lands in the deuce service box, it is called an ace; if it lands in the ad service box, it is called a service winner. If the ball hits the net and then lands in either service box, it is considered a let and play continues. If the ball hits anywhere else on ad court, it is considered a fault.
Players can use any part of ad court to return service, but they must stay behind the baseline until their opponent has hit the ball. Once their opponent has hit the ball, players can move anywhere on ad court to return it.
Ad Court in Tennis
In tennis, the ad court is the side of the court that contains the ad service box. The ad court is usually located to the right of the center line for a right-handed player. For a left-handed player, it would be located to the left of the center line. If you are standing in the middle of a tennis court and facing one of the baselines, then the ad court would be on your right side.
