The Process of Selecting the 75th Anniversary Team

In October 1996, as part of the NBA’s 50th anniversary celebration, a panel of basketball experts assembled by the Sporting News selected the “50 Greatest Players in NBA History”. In January 2006, as part of the NBA’s 60th anniversary celebration, a panel of 12 sports media members convened by SLAM Magazine named the “Top 60 players of all-time”.

To commemorate the NBA’s 75th anniversary, a blue ribbon panel of basketball historians and media members assembled by the NBA selected what they believe to be the top 75 greatest players in league history. The list below includes everyone who received at least one vote from our distinguished panel.

The Criteria for Selecting the 75th Anniversary Team

In order to be eligible for the 75th Anniversary Team, a player must have been retired for at least three years, but no more than 20 years. In order to be eligible for the team, a player must have made a significant contribution to the game of basketball during his or her career.
