Al Horford

He played college basketball for the University of Florida, and was the starting center on the Florida Gators teams that won consecutive NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championships in 2006 and 2007. As a senior in 2007–08, he was the Southeastern Conference (SEC) player of the year, a consensus first-team All-American, and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four. Horford was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez is set to become a free agent this offseason, and he figures to be one of the most sought-after big men on the market.

Lopez, 28, has been with the Nets since they selected him with the 10th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He’s averaged 19.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game during his eight-year career, and he’s been named to the All-Star team twice (2013 and 2014).

Lopez has missed significant time due to injury in recent years, appearing in just 17 games during the 2015-16 season and 34 games during the 2016-17 campaign. However, he’s still one of the best scoring centers in the league when healthy, and he would be a valuable addition to any team in need of frontcourt help.

The Nets are reportedly interested in re-signing Lopez, but they’ll have plenty of competition for his services. The Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers are all expected to pursue Lopez in free agency.

Lopez was born in North Hollywood, California, to Heriberto Lopez Sr. and Rebecca Lopez. His parents are both of Mexican descent. He has two older brothers, Alex and Brook, who were also professional basketball players. Brook currently plays for the San Antonio Spurs, while Alex plays for Hapoel Eilat of the Israeli Premier League.

Lopez was a two-time Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and led Stanford to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008. He was named to the All-Pac-10 first team in 2008 and second team in 2007. As a junior in 2007–08, he averaged 13.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. He finished his collegiate career ranked first in Stanford history with 243 blocked shots.

In his rookie season with the Suns, Lopez averaged 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 54 games off the bench before being sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a stress fracture in his left foot that required surgery

DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins, who was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft, is one of the best free agent centers available this offseason. The 6’11”, 270-pound big man has averaged 21.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game throughout his eight-year NBA career.

DeMarcus Cousins is an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats, where he was an All-American in 2010. He was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. He is a four-time NBA All-Star.

In his first season with the Kings, Cousins was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. He led the Kings in scoring and rebounding averages for three straight seasons, and during that span he was also a member of back-to-back USA Basketball teams that won gold medals at the FIBA World Cup in 2010 and 2014 respectively. In 2015–16, he earned his first career All-NBA selection when he was named to the Second Team. The following season, he helped lead the Kings to their first playoff appearance since 2006 as he averaged 27.0 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, earning him his second consecutive All-NBA Second Team selection.

During his time with Sacramento, Cousins had numerous run-ins with teammates, coaches and members of management due largely to his volatile temperament but also due to his perceived poor work ethic on practice days as well as questions about his leadership qualities. After six and a half seasons with the Kings, Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2017. However, just before suffering a season-ending Achilles tendon injury that cost him all but one game of that 2017–18 campaign after being named an All-Star starter for the second consecutively year, he signed a one-year contract extension with New Orleans worth $5 million that made him eligible for free agency in July 2018 should he chose not to opt into his player option worth over $18 million for 2018–19.

In his eighth NBA season, DeMarcus Cousins averaged 25.2 points (fifth in the NBA), 12.9 rebounds (10th), 5.4 assists (seventh among centers), 1.6 steals (second among centers) and 1.2 blocks (sixth) in 36.2 minutes per game while shooting 47.0 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from three-point range. He was named an All-Star for the fourth consecutive season, and he finished ninth in MVP voting.

Howard, who plays center, had a successful high school career at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, and chose to forgo college and declare himself eligible for the 2004 NBA draft. He was selected first overall by the Orlando Magic, and became one of the best young players in the league. An eight-time All-Star, eight-time All-NBA team member, five-time All-Defensive member and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Howard set numerous franchise and league records during his time with the Magic. In 2012, after eight seasons with Orlando, Howard was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent one season with the Lakers before signing with his hometown team, the Houston Rockets.

A five-time NBA rebounding champion, Howard is ranked second in NBA history averaging 15 or more rebounds per game in a career behind only Wilt Chamberlain (22.9). He is also a two-time NBA blocks leader. Outside of his NBA career, Howard has been recognized for his philanthropic work; he ranks fourth among active NBA players in charitable donations totaling over $17 million to charitable causes since joining the league in 2004.
