What NBA Player Has the Most Championships?
We all know that Bill Russell has the most championships of any NBA player, but what about the other greats? Who else has won multiple championships?
Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is a retired American basketball player who is widely considered to be the greatest of all time. He played 15 seasons in the NBA, winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls. He was a member of the 1992 United States men’s Olympic basketball team (“The Dream Team”), which won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Jordan also had a successful career as a businessman, and is currently the principal owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets.
Bill Russell
Bill Russell has the most NBA Championships of any player in history, with 11 total championships. He played for the Boston Celtics from 1956 to 1969, and won championships in 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1969.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. on April 16, 1947, in New York City. Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, having racked up 38,387 points during his 20-year career with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. He is also the league’s all-time leading rebounder, with 17,440 boards to his credit. Abdul-Jabbar was a 6’10” center who used his exceptional height and reach to dominate opponents on both ends of the court. He was named MVP a record six times and was selected to play in 19 NBA All-Star Games.
Abdul-Jabbar won an NCAA Championship with UCLA in 1967, and he added five more NBA titles during his illustrious pro career. He retired as a player in 1989 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995. In 2012, he was selected as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
Magic Johnson
Magic Johnson is an American retired professional basketball player and former president of basketball operations of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played point guard for the Lakers for 13 seasons. After winning championships in high school and college, Johnson was selected first overall in the 1979 NBA draft by the Lakers. He won a championship and an NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award in his rookie season, and won four more championships with the Lakers during the 1980s.Johnson retired abruptly in 1991 after announcing that he had tested positive for HIV, but returned to play in the 1992 All-Star Game, winning MVP honors. He became a two-time inductees into the Basketball Hall of Fame—being enshrined in 2002 for his individual career, and again in 2010 as a member of the “Dream Team”.
Johnson’s career achievements include three NBA MVP Awards, nine NBA Finals appearances, twelve All-Star games, and ten All-NBA First and Second Team nominations. He led the league in regular-season assists four times, is the NBA’s all-time leader in average assists per game, at 11.2, and set an NBA record for largest difference between free throw percentage and field goal percentage. Johnson earned a lifetime achievement award from the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. He was rated the greatest NBA point guard of all time by ESPN in 2007. His friendship and rivalry with Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, whom he faced in the 1979 NCAA finals and three NBA championship series, are well documented.
Sam Jones
With ten NBA championships, Sam Jones is the player with the most championships in NBA history. Jones played for the Boston Celtics from 1957 to 1969, and was a member of the team that won eight consecutive championships from 1959 to 1966. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984.
