The following season he was named the NBA Finals MVP as the Lakers defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in the championship series. In the deciding Game 6, Johnson had 42 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists, becoming the first rookie ever to be named Finals MVP.
1980-1981 season
During the 1980-1981 season, Johnson became the first rookie in NBA history to average at least 18 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds per game. He was also named the Rookie of the Year and All-Star Game MVP. In the playoffs, he helped lead the Lakers to a championship by averaging 21 points, 11.5 assists, and 8.5 rebounds per game.
