What is free agency?
Free agency in the NBA is when a player is able to sign with any team that he chooses, as long as that team is willing to pay him. Players become free agents after their contract with their current team expires, or if they are waived by their current team. They can sign for any amount of money that they and the team can agree on, up to the salary cap.
There are two types of free agency: restricted and unrestricted. Unrestricted free agency is when any player who has completed four years of their rookie contract or has been out of the NBA for at least one year can sign with any team, no matter what. Restricted free agency is when a player can receive offers from other teams, but their current team has the right to match any offer and keep the player.
Players usually become restricted free agents when they are 26 or older and have completed at least three years of their rookie contract.

The Playoffs
The NBA Finals is the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Eastern and Western conference champions play a best-of-seven game series to determine the league champion. The winning team of the series receives the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
What is the playoffs?
The playoffs are a best-of-seven elimination tournament among 16 teams that have qualified in their respective conferences through a combination of regular season wins and losses, and sometimes winning their conference tournament. The eight survivors of each conference tournament face off in the NBA Finals.
In order to make the playoffs, a team must first win their division, or if they are unable to do so, they must have one of the best records in their conference (but not good enough to win their division) to earn a playoff berth. The team with the best record in each conference is awarded the top seed in their respective conference playoffs, which guarantees them homecourt advantage for at least the first two games of every series. The second seed plays the seventh seed, the third seed plays the sixth seed, and the fourth seed plays the fifth seed.
