The Eastern Conference

The Eastern Conference is one of the two conferences in the NBA. It is made up of 15 teams, and they are the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, and the Washington Wizards.

The Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are an American professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Celtics compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Founded in 1946 as one of the league’s original eight teams, the team play their home games at TD Garden, which they share with the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Boston Bruins. The Celtics are one of the most successful teams in NBA history; they have won the most championships of any NBA franchise with seventeen (accounting for 23.9 percent of all NBA championships since the league’s founding), and currently hold the record for the most recorded wins of any NBA team. The Celtics are one of three NBA franchises (the other two being the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls) to win at least eight league championships, and they have an active rivalry with the Lakers, who have won sixteen NBA championships.

The Brooklyn Nets

As of November 25, 2019, the Brooklyn Nets are in 1st place in the Eastern Conference. The Nets have a record of 10-4.

The New York Knicks

The Knicks are one of two NBA teams based in New York City, the other being the Brooklyn Nets. The Knicks play their home games at Madison Square Garden, an arena they share with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Unlike most NBA teams, the Knicks do not own their arena; it is instead owned by The Madison Square Garden Company, which also owns live entertainment properties such as Radio City Music Hall and The Beacon Theatre.

The Knicks are one of the oldest teams in the NBA, and one of only eight (out of 23) original NBA teams still in existence. They were founded in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which was renamed to the NBA after merging with its rival National Basketball League in 1949.

The Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers (also commonly known as the Sixers) are an American professional basketball team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 76ers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division and play at Wells Fargo Center. Founded in 1946 and originally known as the Syracuse Nationals, they are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA, and one of only eight (out of 23) to survive the league’s first decade.

The Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They play their home games at the Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the Canadian Football League (CFL)’s Toronto Argonauts. The team was founded in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. Since their debut, the Raptors have won four division titles and have made six appearances in the NBA Finals: once playing in their home country of Canada and five more times representing the Eastern Conference in California.

The Western Conference

The Golden State Warriors are the current NBA Champions, winning the title in 2015, 2017, and 2018. The Warriors are a member of the Western Conference, which is made up of 15 teams. The Western Conference is currently led by the Denver Nuggets.

The Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are an American professional basketball team based in Dallas, Texas. The Mavericks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the American Airlines Center, which it shares with the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars.

As of the 2019–20 season, the Mavericks have won three division titles (1987, 2007, 2010), two conference championships (2011, 2012), and one NBA championship (2011).

The Denver Nuggets

As of April 9th, 2021, the Denver Nuggets are currently in the lead for the Western Conference with a record of 43-20. They are followed by the Los Angeles Clippers (42-19), the Utah Jazz (41-21), and the Phoenix Suns (39-22).

The Golden State Warriors

The Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of two conferences that makes up the league, the other being the Eastern Conference. Like the Eastern Conference, the Western Conference is made up of 15 teams, organized in three divisions.

The divisional alignment has changed several times over the course of NBA history. As of 2020, the current divisional alignment is as follows:

– Northwest Division: Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz
– Pacific Division: Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings
– Southwest Division: Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs

The Western Conference has been home to some of the NBA’s most successful teams. The Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers are two of the most successful franchises in NBA history; between them they have won 32 championships (the Warriors with 6 in Oakland and San Francisco, and the Lakers with 16 in Minneapolis and Los Angeles). Other successful teams in recent years include the San Antonio Spurs (5 championships since 1999), Oklahoma City Thunder/Portland Trail Blazers (1 championship each), and Houston Rockets (2 championships in 1994 and 1995).

The Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The Rockets have won two NBA championships and four Western Conference titles. The team was established as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team originally based in San Diego, in 1967. In 1971, the Rockets moved to Houston.

The team’s primary colors are red and white, with secondary colors of silver and black. The team’s logo is a stylized depiction of a rocket ship flying through a hoop, with “HOUSTON ROCKETS” written on the wings.

The Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers are a professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. They play in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Clippers compete in the Pacific Division with four other teams: the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Phoenix Suns, and the Sacramento Kings.

The NBA Finals

The NBA Finals are the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Eastern and Western conference champions play a best-of-seven game series to determine the league champion. The winning team of the NBA Finals receives the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.

The Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavaliers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play in 1970 as an expansion team, and won their first Eastern Conference championship in 2007. They have reached the NBA Finals eight times, and played in NBA Finals in 2016 and 2017.

The Golden State Warriors

The Warriors are currently in the NBA Finals, having made it there for the fifth consecutive year. They are playing against the Toronto Raptors. As of right now, the Warriors are leading the series 3-2.
