Contents
As the NFL season comes to a close, we take a look at the coaches with the most Super Bowl rings. Who has the most?
Bill Belichick- 6
Bill Belichick is the current head coach of the New England Patriots. Belichick has coached the Patriots to eight Super Bowl appearances, with six of those being victories. He is the only head coach in NFL history to win five Super Bowls. Belichick has also been named AP Coach of the Year three times.
New England Patriots
Belichick has won a record six Super Bowls—all with the Patriots—and nine AFC championships, which is also a record. He is the only head coach in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls twice (2002–2004 and 2016–2018), and he is one of just two coaches to lead his team to more than eight consecutive wins in the playoffs.
Chuck Noll- 4
Chuck Noll was the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1969 to 1991. He led the team to four Super Bowl victories in 1974, 1975, 1978, and 1979. Noll is the only head coach in NFL history to win four Super Bowls. He is also the only head coach to have a perfect season, winning all four of his Super Bowl appearances.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have the most Super Bowl wins by a team, with six. They have also played in the most Super Bowls, with eight appearances. The New England Patriots have the second-most Super Bowl wins, with five. The Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers have each won five as well.
Tom Landry- 2
While Tom Landry didn’t have the most Super Bowl rings as a head coach, he does have the most rings of any NFL head coach in history. Tom Landry was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for 29 years, winning 2 Super Bowls.
Dallas Cowboys
Tom Landry was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 1960-1988. He is considered one of the greatest and most innovative coaches in NFL history. He led the Cowboys to 20 consecutive winning seasons (1966-1985), including 12 playoff appearances and 5 Super Bowl appearances. The Cowboys won 2 Super Bowls under his guidance.
Don Shula- 2
Don Shula is a former American football coach who has the most Super Bowl rings of any NFL coach with two. He was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 1970 to 1995. During his time with the Dolphins, he led the team to two Super Bowl victories, in 1972 and 1973.
Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins are a professional American football team based in the Miami metropolitan area. The Dolphins compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The Dolphins play their home games at Hard Rock Stadium in the northern suburb of Miami Gardens, and are headquartered in Davie, Florida.
Don Shula was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for 26 seasons. He led the team to two Super Bowl championships, and holds the NFL record for most career wins by a head coach.
Jimmy Johnson- 2
Jimmy Johnson was the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 1989 to 1993, winning two Super Bowls in that span. He then became the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999, but did not win any Super Bowls with that team.
Dallas Cowboys
Jimmy Johnson won two Super Bowls as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He is one of only four coaches in NFL history to win multiple Super Bowls with the same team. Johnson’s time with the Cowboys was marked by success, but also by turmoil and controversy. He was known for his fiery temperament and willingness to make bold, sometimes controversial decisions.
In 1993, Johnson abruptly resigned from the Cowboys, just days after winning the Super Bowl. He cited “personal reasons” for his decision, but it was widely speculated that he was either fired or forced out by team owner Jerry Jones. Whatever the case, Johnson’s departure from the Cowboys brought an end to one of the most successful coaching tenures in NFL history.
