What NFL Games Were On Today?

It’s Sunday, and that means it’s time for some football! But what NFL games are on today? Here’s a rundown of the slate so you can make sure you don’t miss a minute of the action.

Introduction

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America, and the highest professional level of American football in the world. The NFL’s 17-week regular season runs from early September to late December, with each team playing 16 games and having one bye week. Following the conclusion of the regular season, six teams from each conference (four division winners and two wild card teams) advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the Super Bowl, which is usually held on the first Sunday in February and is played between the champions of the NFC and AFC.

The NFL was formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season. The NFL agreed to merge with the American Football League (AFL) in 1966, and effective from 1970, living former AFL Teams were given an equal share alongside existing NFL member clubs based on a fixed formula. Customarily referred to as “NFL number 1”, this was originally determined by a coin flip amongst APFA owners during their annual meeting for that year – it has since been changed via vote to match that of Super Bowl 50. In 2017, there are more ex-AFL franchises (ten including 2017 expansion club Los Angeles Chargers who previously played as such 1960–1970) than there were before 1970; they are depicted by an asterisk (*).

The current television contracts for channel partners CBS, FOX , NBC & ESPN award respective rights to broadcast games across all day parts on Sundays during regular season play – these rights are non-exclusive as resurgent cable sports network NBCSN also airs selected games throughout Sunday afternoon. In total there are 15 separate windows over which games may be aired during a typical Sunday – this is increased by one additional window during any given Sunday Night featuring a doubleheader where 2 live games are shown consecutively for 3½ hours during prime time; & one additional window on Monday Night where a single game is aired nationally for 3 hours during prime time; & finally one additional Saturday night window consisting of 4 live college football bowl games played consecutively throughout late December / early January – all leading up to college football’s semi-final playoff game known as The Rose Bowl & culminating with college football’s National Championship Game . A similar but separate contract package exists between ABC/ESPN & ESPN2for Saturday afternoon contests involving mostly non-“power conference” schools within college football whose rights reside with those 2 channels while also being simulcasted across both ESPN & ESPN2 at different timeslots relative to respective start times of each game so that all eight windows are filled simultaneously on Saturdays throughout most weeks of NCAA Division I FBS regular season play which runs from early September through late November prior to continuing with NCAA bowl gamesplayed throughout late December through early January leading up prior to this same process repeating itself anew every year .”
