Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African American woman, was fatally shot in her home by Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers on March 13, 2020. The officers, Jon Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove, were executing a search warrant related to a narcotics investigation at Taylor’s residence. According to LMPD Chief Steve Conrad, the search warrant was based on “information that [a] suspect was receiving packages there and there had been drug activity traced back to that location.” Hankison was later fired from the department after an internal investigation found that he violated departmental policies; the other two officers were placed on administrative leave.

Daunte Wright, a defensive back who played college football at the University of South Florida, was shot and killed by police in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, on Sunday, according to his agent. He was 20 years old.
Wright was pulled over by police for a traffic violation, and during the stop, officers said they noticed he had an outstanding warrant. As they attempted to arrest Wright, police said he got back into his car. An officer then fired their gun, striking Wright, who drove away before crashing into another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting is currently being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
