What NFL Player Has the Most Interceptions?
A few NFL players have a lot of interceptions, but one player has the most of all time. Read on to find out who that is.
Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning is a retired American football quarterback who played 18 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the Indianapolis Colts. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion and was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of Super Bowl XLI, as well as the MVP of Super Bowl 50. Manning holds many NFL records, including career passing yards (71,940), touchdowns (539), and AP MVP awards (5), while also being the all-time leader in career passing yards and passing touchdowns for a quarterback in NFL history.
Brett Favre
Brett Favre, former NFL quarterback, has the most interceptions of any player in NFL history. In his 20-year career, he threw 336 interceptions.
Tom Brady
Tom Brady, who plays for the New England Patriots, has the most interceptions of any NFL player. He has thrown interceptions in all but four of his NFL seasons and has a career total of 144 interceptions.
Drew Brees
Drew Brees, who plays for the New Orleans Saints, currently has the most interceptions of any active NFL player. As of the end of the 2018 season, he has thrown a total of 18 interceptions.
Aaron Rodgers
As of the end of the 2019 NFL season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has the most interceptions of any active player, with 83. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is second on the list with 80, followed by Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick with 79.
Rodgers has been intercepted more times than any other player since he entered the league in 2005, but he has also thrown more passes than any other player during that time period. Brady has been intercepted slightly more often than Rodgers on a per-pass basis, but he has thrown more than 20,000 passes during his career, while Rodgers has thrown just over 16,000.
While it is true that quarterbacks who throw more passes are more likely to be intercepted, it is also worth noting that some of the league’s most interception-prone quarterbacks are among its most successful. Brady, for example, has won six Super Bowls despite being intercepted almost as often as he has thrown touchdown passes.
