Deion Sanders’ NFL Career
Deion Sanders is a former American football and baseball player who played in the NFL for 14 seasons. He is considered one of the greatest cornerbacks of all time. During his NFL career, he played for the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Redskins.
Drafted by the Atlanta Falcons
In the 1989 NFL Draft, Sanders was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round with the fifth overall pick. He played for the Falcons for five seasons from 1989 to 1993. In his five years with the Falcons, Sanders made the Pro Bowl four times and was named First-team All-Pro three times. He had 24 interceptions in those five seasons, returning three of them for touchdowns. He also had six punt return touchdowns during his time with the Falcons, which is still an NFL record.
Traded to the San Francisco 49ers
In 1994, Sanders suited up for his fourth NFL team when he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a first and third-round pick in the 1995 NFL Draft. This was a rather steep price to pay, but the 49ers were clearly intent on bolstering their secondary.Sanders would go on to play two seasons in San Francisco, and while he was solid, he was not the game-changing player that the team had hoped for. In fact, Sanders would end up getting traded again at the end of the 1995 season.
Signed with the Dallas Cowboys
In 1995, after being released by the San Francisco 49ers, Sanders signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He helped the team win Super Bowl XXX that year, recorded 56 tackles and intercepted a career-high 8 passes. The following year, Sanders was selected to the 1996 Pro Bowl and was named first-team All-Pro for the fifth time in his career.
