Teddy Bridgewater is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Louisville, where he was a two-time first-team All-American. Bridgewater was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

NFL Career

Bridgewater was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings 32nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. Bridgewater was considered one of the top quarterback prospects but fell in the draft due to fears over his recover from a serious knee injury that he suffered during his final season of college. He became the first member of the Vikings to be selected in the first round since quarterback Christian Ponder in 2011, and was also the first Louisville Cardinal football player to be drafted in the first round since tackle Travis Leffew in 1999.

College Career

In his first collegiate game as a true freshman on September 3, 2011, Bridgewater came in for an injured Will Stein and completed five of six passes for 68 yards and a touchdown in a 49–21 win over Murray State. In the next game against Florida International, he came in for Stein again and finished the game with 17 completions on 24 attempts for 177 yards and three touchdowns as the Cardinals won 59–3. As a result of his performance, Bridgewater was named the Big East Rookie of the Week. For the second straight week, he was named the Rookie of the Week after completing 20 of 31 passes for219 yards and one touchdown against Southern Mississippi. On October 1, in a game against Marshall, he had his best statistical game of the season. In that game, Bridgewater completed 15 of 22 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns as Louisville won 35 – 16. Through six games in 2011, Bridgewater had thrown ten touchdown passes with just two interceptions.

The following season, he started all 16 games and led the Vikings to an NFC North divisional title with an 11-5 record. After injuring his knee in a preseason game prior to the 2016-2017 season, Bridgewater missed the entire regular season while recovering from surgery.

Carolina Panthers

As of September 2020, Teddy Bridgewater is the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and spent six seasons with the team, including leading them to the playoffs in 2015. He then spent one season with the New York Jets before signing with the Panthers in 2020.
