The Charlotte Hornets are a professional American football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team is headquartered in Bank of America Stadium in uptown Charlotte; their training facilities and practice facilities are located at the team headquarters and at a separate location in Charlotte.
The Hornets began play in 1976 as an expansion team, they joined the NFL as part of the AFC-NFC merger of 1970. The team played its home games at Memorial Stadium through 1987, and then moved to Bank of America Stadium (originally Carolinas Stadium) in 1988. The Hornets ownership changed hands several times during their time as an NFL team; they were owned by Jerry Richardson from 1993 to 2018, and are currently owned by hedge fund manager David Tepper.
The team has appeared in the playoffs 14 times, most recently in 2019; they have not yet won a Super Bowl.
