What NFL Team Never Went to the Super Bowl?
What NFL team never went to the Super Bowl? The answer might surprise you. Learn more about this little-known fact in our latest blog post.
The Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Browns compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The Browns play their home games at FirstEnergy Stadium, which opened in 1999, with administration and coaching headquarters in Berea, Ohio. The Browns’ official colors are brown, orange and white. They are unique among the 32 member franchises of the NFL in that they do not have a mascot, many fans observe a unofficial mascot of an oversized pair of brown costume boots with orange laces.
As of the 2018 season, the Browns have appeared in ten NFL Championship games and three AFL–NFL Championship games (which they won in 1950, 1954 and 1955), but have never won an NFL or AFL title since joining either league in 1950. Through the 2017 season, they were one of three NFL teams (along with the Detroit Lions and New York Jets) that had not played in a Super Bowl game—and one of only two teams (the Green Bay Packers being the other) that did not make an appearance during either the AFC or NFC championship game during that same time frame.
The Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have never been to a Super Bowl. They have been to the playoffs ten times, most recently in 2016, but they have never won a playoff game.
The Houston Texans
The Houston Texans have never been to the Super Bowl. The Texans joined the NFL in 2002 as an expansion team.
