The Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are the oldest team in the NFL, founded in 1898. The Cardinals have a long and storied history, winning two NFL championships in 1925 and 1947. The team has been to the playoffs numerous times, but have not had much success in recent years.

History

The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football team in Glendale, Arizona. The Cardinals compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The Cardinals were founded as the Morgan Athletic Club in 1898, and are the oldest continuously run professional football team in the United States. The team was established in Chicago in 1920 as a charter member of the American Professional Football Association (APFA) and joined the NFL in 1922 when the APFA became part of that league, they have won two NFL championships, both while based in Chicago.

The team has played their home games at State Farm Stadium since 2006. The team began play as an independent amateur team in 1898 with CoachFielding H. Yost. In 1901, they joined the APFA, but were disbanded after only one season when a players’ strike left them short-handed against Yost’s former team, the University of Michigan. In 1913, Stan Kroenke bought mustaine ranch land west of Denver for $1 million and announced his intention to build a stadium there for his Colorado Crush UFL team; that stadium would eventually be named Sports Authority Field at Mile High and was originally intended to be used by an NFL team that would move there.

Championships

The Cardinals have won two NFL championships, both while they were based in Chicago. The first came in 1925, when they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates (now the Steelers) in the NFL Championship Game. The Cardinals then won again in 1947, when they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Championship Game.

The Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are the only team in the National Football League that can claim to be 100 years old. The Packers were founded in 1919 and are the third oldest franchise in the NFL. The Packers are also the only team to have never had a losing season.

The team was originally sponsored by the Indian Packing Company, a local meatpacking company. The team became known as the “packers” because of this.
