What NFL Teams Are Left in the Playoffs?

The NFL playoffs are in full swing, and there are only a few teams left fighting for the chance to go to the Super Bowl. Who are the frontrunners?

AFC

The Baltimore Ravens and the Tennessee Titans are the two AFC teams left in the playoffs. The Ravens are the number one seed and the Titans are the number six seed.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.

The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocate the franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between Modell and the city of Cleveland, the Browns’ intellectual property—including team name, logos, training facility, and history—were kept in trust and the franchise was effectively dissolved. After three years of dormancy, the Browns were revived through a public-private partnership between the city of Cleveland and businessmen Albert Ratner and Alvin Kaufman. The Browns play their home games at FirstEnergy Stadium, which opened in 1999.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The Bills compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays their home games at New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills are the only NFL team that plays its home games in the state of New York. The Bills conduct summer training camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, New York, an eastern suburb of Rochester.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team moved to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL–NFL merger. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002 season.

NFC

The NFC is down to four teams. The Saints, Rams, Cowboys, and Bears all clinched their spot in the playoffs. The Saints and Rams both had bye weeks, while the Cowboys and Bears played in the Wild Card round. The Saints will face the Rams in the divisional round, and the Cowboys will face the Bears.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. The team is headquartered in Frisco, Texas, and plays its home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which opened for the 2009 season. The stadium took the place of the partially demolished Texas Stadium, which served as the Cowboys’ home through the 2008 season. The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960.

Green Bay Packers

As of January 10th, 2021, the Green Bay Packers are one of 4 NFC teams remaining in the playoffs. The other 3 teams are the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Los Angeles Rams.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to St. Louis. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016.

The Rams began play in 1936 as members of the second American Football League (AFL), which folded after one season. The following year, they joined the NFL as part of a deal which sent three other teams from that league (the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, and Pittsburgh Steelers) to the NFL. As part of that deal, all four teams were placed in different divisions; the Rams were placed in the Western Division.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. Founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966, the Saints began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967.

The franchise was founded on November 1, 1966.[1] The team’s primary colors are old gold and black; their logo is a simplified fleur-de-lis.[2] They played their home games in Tulane Stadium through 1974,[3] and then moved to the new Louisiana Superdome (now the Mercedes-Benz Superdome) for the 1975 season.[4][5]

The Saints have won one Super Bowl (Super Bowl XLIV),[6] one NFC Championship (2009),[7] seven division championships (1991, 2000, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2017, 2020), and have made eleven playoff appearances.[8][9][10]

Super Bowl

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America, and the highest professional level of American football in the world. The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL).

LIII Matchup

The Rams will face the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII, marking the fourth time in franchise history that the Rams have reached the big game. The game will be played on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
