This week’s bye week doesn’t have any major impact on the playoff race, but it does give some teams a chance to rest and recharge for the final stretch of the season. Here’s a look at each team and what they can do with the extra week off.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are on bye this week.

Green Bay Packers

New York Jets

The New York Jets are a professional American football team based in the New York metropolitan area. The Jets compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team is headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey. In a unique arrangement for the league, the Jets share MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey with the New York Giants. The franchise is legally and corporately registered as New York Jets, LLC.

The team was founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original member of the American Football League (AFL); later, the franchise joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team began to play in 1960 at the Polo Grounds. Under new ownership, the current name was adopted in 1963 and the franchise moved to Shea Stadium in 1964 and then to Giant Stadium in 1984. The Jets advanced to their first AFL Championship Game following their regular season victory over the Buffalo Bills; but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 13–7. Following 1966 AFL season, NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle offered annual financial assistance to every AFL club so that each could survive financially and compete on an even footing with NFL teams; this marked beginning of softening jealousy between two leagues which would eventually lead to full-blown merger several years later. Since 1968 season, it has appeared in AFC Championship Game seven times (1970–71 AFC playoffs; 1981 AFC playoffs; 1982 AFC playoffs; 1985 AFC playoffs; 1990 AFC playoffs; 1998 AFC playoffs; 2009 AFC playoffs), most recently during 2010 season—Rex Ryan’s first year as head coach—and won three times (1970–71 AFC playoffs; 1998 AFC playoffs), but lost four times (1981 AFC playoffs; 1982 AFC playoffs—game was also known as “The Mud Bowl”; 1985 AFC playoffs—game went into sudden death overtime where Patriots quarterback Tony Eason completed touchdown pass to Craig James on first play from scrimmage). Jets have been ever-present members of NFL since 1970 season when both leagues merged into one big professional football family comprising now 32 franchises playing 17-week regular season followed by single-elimination tournament leading up to granddaddy of all football games—the Super Bowl.
