It’s almost Christmas, and that means it’s time for some football! Check out this blog post to see what NFL teams are playing on Christmas Day.
NFL Teams Playing on Christmas Day
The NFL has a tradition of playing on Christmas Day, and this year is no different. There are three games scheduled for Christmas Day, and they are all Divisional matchups. The first game of the day is between the Los Angeles Rams and the Seattle Seahawks. This will be a rematch of their Week 10 game, which the Seahawks won 16-10.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are an American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.
The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocation the franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between Modell, the city of Cleveland, and the other NFL franchises, Modell was required to leave the Browns’ name and colors behind, as well as their history and records. Initially, a new Baltimore football team was to be established and given players and other assets from among existing NFL franchises. However, negotiations between Modell and officials from those teams on how best to do this broke down several times over how much compensation Modell would receive for moving the Browns. As a result, on March 28, 1996, NFL owners voted 31–1 to approve Modell’s relocation of the Browns to Baltimore under a new name and team colors; only Cincinnati voted against it.
Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are a professional American football team based in Chicago, Illinois. The Bears compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The Bears have won nine NFL Championships, including one Super Bowl, and hold the NFL record for the most enshrinees in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the most retired jersey numbers. The Bears have also recorded more victories than any other NFL franchise.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys will be playing the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas day. The game will be broadcast on NBC at 8:30 pm ET.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL), and play their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit. Originally based in Portsmouth, Ohio and called the Portsmouth Spartans, the team began play in 1929 as an independent professional team. Despite success within their own division, they could not survive in Portsmouth, which was too small to support a professional football team without the NFL’s permission. Daniel F. Reeves moved the team to Detroit for the 1934 season.
What NFL Teams Are Playing on Christmas Day?
The Los Angeles Rams will take on the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas day. This will be the first time since 2009 that the Rams have played on Christmas day. The Rams are currently in first place in the NFC West and are looking to clinch the division title. The Cowboys are in second place in the NFC East and are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. This should be a great game between two division rivals.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day. This will be a rematch of their Week 12 matchup, which the Ravens won 19-14. The Ravens currently sit atop the AFC North with a 10-4 record, while the Steelers are in second place at 9-5.
Chicago Bears
On Christmas Day, the Chicago Bears will take on the Green Bay Packers. This will be a rematch of their Week 1 game, which the Packers won by a score of 10-3. The Bears will be looking to avenge that loss and get back on track after a disappointing start to the season.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys will be playing on Christmas Day this year. This will be their first Christmas Day game since 2009, when they lost to the New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys are currently 9-4 and are in first place in the NFC East. They will be playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are 4-9 and in last place in the NFC South.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have been a traditional Christmas Day game since 1934, with the exception of a few years during World War II. The team usually plays at home, but they have occasionally been scheduled for away games, such as their 2011 matchup against the San Diego Chargers.
