NFL Teams with a Bye Week This Week
There are four NFL teams with a bye week this week: the Green Bay Packers, the New Orleans Saints, the Oakland Raiders, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. This means that these teams will not be playing in the NFL this week. These teams will have a chance to rest and prepare for their next game.
Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football team based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Cardinals compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The Cardinals were founded as the Morgan Athletic Club in 1898, and are the oldest continuously run professional football team in the United States. The franchise began play in Chicago in 1898 and then moved to St. Louis in 1960 and then to Phoenix in 1988. The team has won two NFL championships, both while it was based in Chicago.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals are a professional American football team based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Bengals compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Their home stadium is Paul Brown Stadium in downtown Cincinnati.
The Bengals were founded in 1966 as a member of the AFL by former Cleveland Browns head coach Paul Brown. Brown was the Bengals’ head coach from their inception to 1975. After being dismissed as the Browns’ head coach by Art Modell in January 1963, Brown had shown interest in establishing another NFL franchise in Ohio and looked at both Cincinnati and Columbus. He ultimately chose Cincinnati for its smaller size, its more dedicated fan base, and its proximity to his native Norwood; then-circuit court judge Robert Wise assisted him in finding an appropriate ownership group.
The Bengals have reached the playoffs seven times since then (1981, 1988, 1990, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012), but haven’t won a playoff game since 1990. They failed to qualify for the playoffs from 1995 to 2002 and again from 2004 to 2007; during this 18-year stretch of non-playoff appearances (not including an injury-plagued 2003 season in which they finished 8–8), they only had two winning seasons (1997 and 1999).
