What NFL Teams Have Not Been to the Super Bowl?

The NFL Super Bowl is the biggest and most important American football game of the year.
Every year, two teams from the National Football League (NFL) compete for the Lombardi Trophy.
But not every team has been lucky enough to make it to the big game.
In this blog post, we’ll take a look at which NFL teams have not been to the Super Bowl.

What NFL Teams Have Not Been to the Super Bowl?

The NFL’s Beginnings

The National Football League (NFL) is an American professional football league. The NFL was formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season. The NFL concists of 32 teams, and of those teams, 12 have never been to the Super Bowl.

Teams That Were There From the Start

Since the National Football League’s inaugural season in 1920, 45 franchises have competed in the league. Of those, 33 have played in at least one Super Bowl. The teams that have not made it to the big game are:

-Cleveland Browns
-Detroit Lions
-Houston Texans
-Jacksonville Jaguars
-Minnesota Vikings
-New Orleans Saints
-New York Jets
-Philadelphia Eagles

Teams That Joined the League Later

The NFL began in 1920 with eleven teams. At first, it was called the American Professional Football Conference, but the name was soon changed to the National Football League. The first NFL team was the Decatur Staleys, now known as the Chicago Bears. In 1922, the New York Giants and the Chicago Cardinals joined the league, and in 1925, the Pottsville Maroons joined.

The NFL continued to expand in 1933 when the Pittsburgh Pirates (now the Steelers) and the Philadelphia Eagles joined. In 1960, ten more teams joined the league: The Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Titans (now the Jets), Pittsburgh Steelers (again), and San Francisco 49ers. Finally, in 1976, two more teams were added: The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Teams That Have Been to the Super Bowl

The following NFL teams have not been to the Super Bowl: Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Cleveland Browns. The Lions and Browns have the longest drought, not having been to the big game since 1957 and 1964, respectively.

The Winners

The Super Bowl is the biggest and most important American football game of the year. It is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL). The game is played by the winners of the NFC and AFC championship games.

The first Super Bowl was played on January 15, 1967. Since then, there have been 52 Super Bowls. The Green Bay Packers have won the most Super Bowls, with 13 victories. The New England Patriots have won the second-most, with 10 victories.

The Losers

The Losers are the team that did not make it to the Super Bowl. These teams have gone through a lot of losses, and they have not been able to make it to the top. They have not been able to win the big game, and they have not been able to get their hands on the Lombardi Trophy.

Teams That Have Never Been to the Super Bowl

There have been a total of 54 Super Bowls in NFL history. That means, of the 32 NFL teams, 14 of them have never made an appearance in the big game. Three of those teams (Browns, Lions, Jaguars) have never even made it to the playoffs in the Super Bowl era. Who are these teams?

The Reasons Why

Although there have been 52 Super Bowls, not every NFL team has had the chance to play in the big game. In fact, there are a number of teams that have never made it to the Super Bowl.

There are a few reasons why certain teams have never been to the Super Bowl. Some teams, like the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions, just haven’t been very good over the years. Other teams, like the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, haven’t had a lot of success lately but have made it to the Super Bowl in the past. Finally, there are some expansion teams that have never been to the Super Bowl, like the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans.

Whatever the reason, these 10 NFL teams have never made it to the Super Bowl:

-Arizona Cardinals
-Atlanta Falcons
-Baltimore Ravens
-Carolina Panthers
-Cincinnati Bengals
-Dallas Cowboys
-Detroit Lions
-Houston Texans
-Jacksonville Jaguars
-Minnesota Vikings

The Chances of Making It

Only thirteen NFL teams have never been to the Super Bowl, and the chances of your team being one of them are very slim.

Since the first Super Bowl was played in 1967, there have been a total of 52 games played. Of those 52 games, only 13 have featured teams that have never been to the big game before. That means that 25% of Super Bowls have included at least one team making its debut.

So, if your team has never been to the Super Bowl, there’s a good chance they will be making an appearance soon.

Of the thirteen teams that have never made it to the Super Bowl, seven of them have never even made it to the Conference Championship game. Those teams are:
-The Detroit Lions
-The Cleveland Browns
-The Jacksonville Jaguars
-The Houston Texans
-The Atlanta Falcons
-The Carolina Panthers
-The Tennessee Titans
