The teams that have never won a Super Bowl

The NFL is one of the most popular sports leagues in the United States. Millions of people tune in every year to watch the best teams in the league compete for the championship. There are a lot of teams in the NFL, but only a handful have ever won the Super Bowl. Let’s take a look at the teams that have never won a Super Bowl.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns have never won a Super Bowl and have only made it to the big game once, in 1986. They are one of only three teams (along with the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints) to never win a playoff game. The Browns have had some great players over the years, including running back Jim Brown, who is considered one of the best players in NFL history.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL), and play their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit. Originally based in Portsmouth, Ohio and called the Portsmouth Spartans, the team began play in 1929 as an independent professional entity. For four seasons they competed against other semi-pro clubs from up and down the Ohio River Valley, under the leadership of George Halas until n 1932 he moved them to Chicago. The next year, he renamed them the Bears.

The Lions began play in Detroit for the 1934 NFL season. The club is currently owned by Martha Ford, who succeeded her late husband William Clay Ford, Sr., who bought it in 1963 for $4.5 million.[1][2] The team’s home games are played at Ford Field; it is currently one of only two stadiums shared by two NFL teams, with Capitol One Arena housing both Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens.

The Lions have not won a league championship since 1957 (pre-Super Bowl era), which is longer than any other team in NFL history,[3] and they have only made two trips to the Super Bowl: they lost to the Miami Dolphins 27–17 after returning following their 2016 NFC Championship Game victory over the Green Bay Packers; and Super Bowl XLV to which they were defeated by the New Orleans Saints 31–17.[4]

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium in Houston’s Reliant Astrodome complex.

The franchise entered the league in 2002 as an expansion team, making them the youngest franchise currently competing in the NFL. They are also one of only two teams to never make it to a conference championship game, along with the Detroit Lions.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have never won a Super Bowl in their history. The Jaguars joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1995, and have only made it to the playoffs 10 times in their 25-year history. They made it to the AFC Championship game in 1996 and 1999, but lost both times. Most recently, they made it to the AFC Divisional Playoffs in 2017, but lost to the New England Patriots.

Los Angeles Chargers

After 57 seasons, the Los Angeles Chargers have never won a Super Bowl.
The Chargers began in 1959 as the Los Angeles Chargers of the American Football League. The team relocated to San Diego in 1961. The Chargers joined the National Football League in 1970 as part of the AFL-NFL merger.

The Chargers have appeared in one Super Bowl, following the 1994 season. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers, 49-26.

Since their move to Los Angeles in 2017, the Chargers have not had a winning season. They went 9-7 in 2018 and 5-11 in 2019.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season. The team competes in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. Founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966, the Saints joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1967. The name “Saints” is an allusion to November 1 being All Saints Day in the Catholic faith.

The franchise was founded on November 1, 1966. The team’s primary colors are old gold and black; their logo is a simplified sketch of a fleur-de-lis. They played their home games at Tulane Stadium through the 1974 NFL season. The following year, they began playing their home games at the Louisiana Superdome (now Mercedes-Benz Superdome).

Philadelphia Eagles

One of the most popular teams in the NFL, the Eagles have a large and passionate fan base. Despite their popularity, they have never won a Super Bowl. They came close in 1980, when they lost to the Oakland Raiders in the Super Bowl. They made it back to the big game in 2004, but lost to the New England Patriots. The Eagles have won three NFC Championships, but they have yet to win the ultimate prize.
