Have you ever wondered what NHL team would draft you? Well, wonder no more! Take our quiz to find out which team would pick you in the NHL draft.
Introduction
In order to play in the National Hockey League, players must be drafted by an NHL team. The NHL Entry Draft is held every summer and it is a time when every NHL team selects the rights to unsigned players who are between the ages of 18 and 20.
Players who are drafted come from all over the world, but most of them come from North America (Canada and the United States). There are three types of drafts that NHL teams can use to acquire player rights: the Entry Draft, the Amateur Draft, and the Free Agent Draft.
The Entry Draft is by far the most common way for teams to draft players. In the Entry Draft, each team is given a certain number of draft picks, with the worst teams getting more picks than the better teams. The draft order is usually determined by a lottery system, although it can also be determined by Reverse Standings (where the Stanley Cup Champion would pick last).
The Amateur Draft was used until 1995 and it was used to draft players who were over 20 years old and were not yet professionals. In 1995, it was replaced by the Free Agent Draft.
The Free Agent Draft is used to draft players who are unsigned and have been playing professional hockey in Europe or other leagues.
NHL Teams
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning are a professional ice hockey team based in Tampa, Florida. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Lightning were founded in 1992 as an expansion team, and played their home games at the ThunderDome in St. Petersburg, Florida until they moved to Amalie Arena in Tampa in 1996.
The Lightning won the Stanley Cup championship in their 2004–05 season, becoming the first NHL franchise located in the state of Florida to do so. The team is often referred to as the Bolts, and their mascot is ThunderBug.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a professional ice hockey team based in Toronto, Ontario. They are members of the National Hockey League’s Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. The Maple Leafs have won thirteen Stanley Cup championships, second only to the 24 championships of their primary rival, the Montreal Canadiens.
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are a professional ice hockey team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team is owned by True North Sports & Entertainment and plays its home games at Bell MTS Place.
The Jets began play as the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999–2000 NHL season. True North Sports & Entertainment then bought the team in May 2011 and relocated the franchise from Atlanta to Winnipeg prior to the 2011–12 season. The Southeast Division was dissolved as part of NHL realignment, and as a result, Winnipeg moved to the newly formed Central Division.
Drafting Process
The NHL Entry Draft is an annual event in which every team in the National Hockey League (NHL) systematically select the rights to amateur ice hockey players who meet age and other requirements. NHL Entry Draft picks are represented by the team that owns their rights and not by the player himself. For example, if the Tampa Bay Lightning own the rights to a player drafted in 2020, that player is said to have been drafted by the Lightning, not by Tampa Bay.
Entry Draft
The NHL Entry Draft is an annual meeting in which every franchise of the National Hockey League (NHL) systematically select the rights to available ice hockey players who meet draft eligibility requirements (North American players 18–20 years old and European/international players 20–22 years old). The NHL Entry Draft is held once every year, generally within two to three months after the conclusion of the previous season. During the draft, teams take turns selecting amateur athletes from junior, collegiate, or European leagues.
Scouting
The National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft is an annual event in which every franchise of the NHL selects a certain number of prospects who have each been judged to have the potential capability of playing professional hockey at the NHL level.
In order for these prospects to be scouted, they must first be eligible for selection in the draft. To become eligible, a player must turn 18 years old by December 31st of that year and must not already be signed with an NHL team. However, if a player is participating in major junior hockey when he turns 18, he may remain eligible for another year. (Players who participate in college hockey have until they turn 20 or have completed three seasons to become eligible.)
After becoming eligible, players are then scouted by various analysts and team personnel from all 30 NHL franchises. These scouts will travel near and far to watch potential prospects play in order to get a better understanding of their abilities. Each scout has their own opinion on every player and it is up to them whether or not to recommend that their team use a draft pick on that player.
Conclusion
After looking at all of the information, it is clear that the Tampa Bay Lightning would be the best team to draft me. They have shown interest in me in the past, they have a need for someone like me on their team, and they play in a city that I am familiar with.
