What Season Does Baseball Start?

It’s that time of year again! The leaves are changing color, the air is getting crisp, and baseball is back.

What Season Does Baseball Start?

America’s Favorite Pastime

Baseball is America’s favorite pastime. Though the game is played all over the world, it is most popular in the United States. The first professional baseball league was founded in America in 1871, and today there are three major professional baseball leagues in the country: the Major League Baseball (MLB), the Minor League Baseball (MiLB), and the Independent League Baseball (IBL).

In general, the baseball season starts in late March or early April. The MLB season starts with a week of exhibition games between teams, followed by a week of regular season games. The MiLB and IBL seasons start a few weeks later, in May.

The Start of Baseball Season

Although baseball is traditionally thought of as a summer sport, the season actually starts in the spring. Professional baseball games begin in late March or early April and continue into October or November. The regular season consists of 162 games, which are played over a six-month period. The playoffs and World Series usually take place in October.

Spring Training

Spring training is a time for baseball teams to get ready for the upcoming season. For players, it is a chance to shake off the rust from the offseason, get back into game shape, and prepare for the long season ahead. For fans, it is a time to watch their favorite players and teams in action again and get excited for the start of the season.

Spring training typically starts in February and runs through the first week or two of April. The regular season then starts around the middle of April and runs through late September or early October. The postseason ( playoffs) starts in October and can run into November if there is a World Series (the championship series).

The Regular Season

The regular baseball season typically starts in late March or early April and runs through late September or early October. The actual start date and length of the season varies from year to year, but it typically lasts around 162 games.

The Postseason

Postseason baseball is upon us! The October classic, the World Series, is the day most baseball fans circle on their calendars every year. But before we get there, we have to get through the postseason.

The playoffs begin with two Wild Card games. These are single-elimination games between the two teams with the best records who didn’t win their division. The winners of those games move on to the best-of-five Divisional Series.

There are four teams in each league (American and National) who make it to this round: the three division winners plus the Wild Card team with the best record. The Divisional Series is also a best-of-five series, meaning the first team to win three games moves on to the next round.

The final round of the playoffs is the best-of-seven League Championship Series (LCS). The winner of each LCS moves on to play in the World Series.

This year’s World Series is set to begin on October 22 and will be a best-of-seven series like the LCS. So who will be crowned champion this year? Tune in to find out!
