What Size Are Baseball Cards?
Contents
A lot of people don’t know this, but baseball cards come in a wide range of sizes. The most popular size is the 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ card, but they can be as small as 1-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ or as large as 4″ x 6″.
Standard Size
2-1/2 inches wide by 3-1/2 inches tall
Mini Size
2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ is the standard size for MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, and other sports cards. These are commonly known as “standard” or “regular” size cards. Cards of this size have been produced since the late 1800s and continue to be printed today. They are usually stored in 3-ring binders or trading card albums.
3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″, also called “jumbo” cards, were first produced in the early 1950s. Jumbo cards were popular for a few years but then fell out of favor with collectors. They were reprinted in the 1970s and have been produced sporadically since then. Jumbo cards are larger than standard cards and can be difficult to find a place to store them.
Miniature baseball cards, also called “mini” cards, are about half the size of a standard card. They were first produced in the 1960s and were popular for a few years before falling out of favor with collectors. Mini cards were reprinted in the 1980s and have been produced sporadically since then. Like jumbo cards, mini cards can be difficult to find a place to store because they are smaller than standard cards but larger than most other collectibles such as coins or stamps.
Jumbo Size
Jumbo size baseball cards measure 3-1/2 inches wide by 5 inches tall. They’re significantly larger than standard cards, making them more eye-catching and easier to read. Jumbo cards also tend to feature more detailed images than smaller cards. Because of their size, jumbo cards are usually more expensive than standard cards, but they’re still relatively affordable for most collectors.
