Contents
It’s time to take a look at the NFL draft and see which team had the best picks. We’ll go over each team’s draft class and see which one looks the strongest.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had an amazing draft. They filled needs on both sides of the ball and got some great players who will make an immediate impact. Their first-round pick, Vita Vea, is a massive defensive tackle who will help sure up their run defense. They also drafted a potential franchise quarterback in the second round in Mike White.
Jameis Winston
The first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Winston was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played college football at Florida State University, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2013 and led the Seminoles to a BCS National Championship in 2014. Known for his Southern style of play, Winston is considered one of the best quarterbacks of his class.
Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith (born June 19, 1993) is an American football offensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Penn State, and was drafted by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Ali Marpet
Marpet, a Division III product out of Hobart (N.Y.), was one of the most intriguing prospects in the entire draft. A two-time All-American and four-time all-conference selection, Marpet started all 45 games in which he played during his college career, including 42 consecutive starts to close out his Hobart career. Listed at 6-foot-4 and307 pounds, Marpet projects as a guard at the next level after playing tackle in college. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine, which was faster than any other offensive lineman in attendance.
The Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins had an amazing NFL draft. They were able to snag a franchise quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa, as well as a impactful wide receiver in DeVante Parker. They also were able to improve their defense with the addition of first-round pick Noah Igbinoghene.
DeVante Parker
The Miami Dolphins drafted wide receiver DeVante Parker with the 14th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Parker was widely considered to be one of the best wide receiver prospects in the draft, and many analysts believed that he would be a first-round selection. The Dolphins traded up to select Parker, giving up their first- and fifth-round picks to the San Diego Chargers in order to do so.
Parker had a successful college career at Louisville, where he caught 156 passes for 2,775 yards and 33 touchdowns in four seasons. He was a first-team All-American in 2014, and he was also named the Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Year that season.
At 6’3″ and 209 pounds, Parker has good size for a wide receiver and is considered to be a very good athlete. He is expected to have a successful career in the NFL, and many believe that he has the potential to become one of the league’s top receivers.
Jordan Phillips
Phillips was drafted in the 2nd round with the 52nd pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was the 6th defensive tackle selected in 2015.
Jay Ajayi
Jay Ajayi was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played college football at Boise State, where he was a two-time first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection.
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots had a great NFL Draft. They got a lot of good players who can help them win a Super Bowl.
Malcom Brown
The New England Patriots selected defensive tackle Malcom Brown out of the University of Texas with the 32nd pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 320-pounder was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and was named the conference’s Defensive Lineman of the Year as a junior in 2014. He finished his Texas career with 172 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and six sacks.
Jordan Richards
The New England Patriots selected Jordan Richards with the 64th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. The former Stanford Cardinal safety was widely considered to be a reach at that point in the draft, as most analysts had him pegged as a late-round pick or undrafted free agent. However, Bill Belichick and the Patriots saw something in Richards that they liked, and they were not afraid to pull the trigger on him in the second round.
Richards was not asked to do a whole lot in his rookie season, as he was buried on the depth chart behind veterans Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon. However, he did see some action on special teams and even logged a few snaps on defense here and there. He finished his rookie year with eight tackles and one pass deflection.
heading into his sophomore season, it was expected that Richards would see an increased role in 2016. However, that was not the case, as he once again found himself buried on the depth chart behind McCourty and Harmon. He only appeared in eight games on defense, finishing with just one tackle. Nevertheless, he did see an uptick in playing time on special teams, where he made five tackles.
With McCourty and Harmon still ahead of him on the depth chart heading into his third season, it is unlikely that we will see much of Jordan Richards on defense in 2017. However, he should continue to be a key contributor on special teams for the Patriots.
Trey Flowers
Trey Flowers was the 44th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, selected by the New England Patriots. He played college football at Arkansas, and was considered one of the best defensive prospects in his class.
Flowers was a key part of the Patriots’ defense during their Super Bowl-winning 2016 season, recording 6.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He emerged as one of the team’s best pass-rushers, and was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team.
In 2017, Flowers had 7 sacks and 1 forced fumble as the Patriots won another Super Bowl. He was again named to the NFL All-Rookie Team, becoming just the second player in history to be named to the team in back-to-back seasons.
Flowers has continued his strong play into 2018, recording 4 sacks and 1 forced fumble through the first 8 weeks of the season. He is widely considered to be one of the best young defensive players in the NFL, and has established himself as a key member of the Patriots’ defense.
The New York Jets
The New York Jets had an outstanding NFL draft. They filled needs at almost every position and came away with several players who could become starters. They also added depth at positions where they were already strong. The Jets draft was so good that they may have vaulted themselves into Super Bowl contention.
Leonard Williams
Most people would say that the New York Jets had the best NFL draft this year. With the sixth overall pick, they selected Leonard Williams, a defensive end from USC. Williams is an incredible talent, and many people believe that he has the potential to be one of the best players in the NFL.
Devin Smith
Devin Smith was the Jets’ second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The former Ohio State Buckeye wide receiver is known for his speed and playmaking ability. He was a key part of the Buckeyes’ 2014 national championship team, catching 12 touchdown passes that season.
Bryce Petty
Bryce Petty was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Petty, a quarterback out of Baylor, was widely considered a developmental prospect who would need time to adjust to the NFL game. However, he flashed potential in limited action during his rookie season, and he will be given the chance to compete for the Jets’ starting quarterback job in 2016.
