The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City; the other is the National League (NL)’s New York Mets. The Yankees began play in 1901 as an expansion team called the Baltimore Orioles (no relationship to the modern Baltimore Orioles). In 1903, Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased the franchise after it ceased operations and moved it to New York City, renaming the club the New York Highlanders. The Highlanders were officially renamed as the “Yankees” in 1913.
National League
The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, also known as the National League (NL), is the older of two leagues constituting Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, and the older of the three major professional baseball leagues in North America. Founded on February 2, 1876, to replace the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP) of 1871–1875, the NL is sometimes called the Senior Circuit, in contrast to MLB’s other league, the American League, which was founded 25 years later.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are a professional baseball team based in Los Angeles, California. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division. Established in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York, the team relocated to Los Angeles before the 1958 season. They played four seasons at Dodger Stadium before moving to their current home of Chavez Ravine in 1962.
Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals are a professional baseball team based in Washington, D.C. They are members of the National League East Division in Major League Baseball. From 2005 to 2007, the team played its home games at RFK Stadium, located in related to the Anacostia River on the southeast side of D.C.; since 2008 their home stadium has been Nationals Park, located on South Capitol Street near the Navy Yard in Southeast D.C.
