The Blackhawks were one of 17 NBA Expansion Franchises that were awarded by the NBA in 1949.
Western Conference
As the regular season comes to an end, the playoff picture is starting to take shape. In the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers have clinched the top two seeds. The Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, and Oklahoma City Thunder are fighting for the remaining spots.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association, and the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. The franchise began with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the National Basketball League (NBL). The new team began playing in Minneapolis, calling themselves the Minneapolis Lakers. Initially a member of the NBL, the Lakers won the 1948 NBL championship before joining the rival Basketball Association of America (BAA), where they would win five of their next six championships. In 1949, led by center George Mikan, who was acquired in a trade with the Gems, they won their sixth championship, and by 1950 were losers of an NBL-record 33 consecutive games.
After Mikan’s retirement in 1954 following knee injuries sustained during his final seasons with Minneapolis (who had since relocated to Los Angeles), brainstorming by general manager Fred Schaus led toweet c a radical modification to NBA rules that prohibited offensive goaltending. Using this new rule Pistons’ head coach Charles Wolfenstein devised a system that employed center Bill Russell as a last line of defense; this innovation became known as “The Goaltending Defense” or “The Zonen Defense”. When picked up by Boston owner Walter Brown he used it to lead his team to nine NBA titles in thirteen seasons; making them one of only two teams that have ever won more than eight championships (the other being their rivals, the Lakers).
Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The franchise was founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, one of three expansion teams to join the NBA that year. The Braves moved from Buffalo, New York to San Diego, California in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers. In 1984, The Clippers moved to Los Angeles.
The franchise began in Western New York as the Buffalo Braves, one of three NBA expansion franchises that began play in the 1970–71 season, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers. They played their home games at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium from 1971 through 1978. The franchise was named after a term for striping horsehair used in mattresses and upholstery; boisterous fans would often “clip” (or strip) paper or plastic cups or bags in Xs or Os of their team logo to show support for their Braves during games played there.
Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets are one of the teams remaining in the Western Conference of the NBA Playoffs for 2021. They are currently in second place in the conference, behind the Los Angeles Clippers. The Nuggets have a strong team this year and are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs. They have All-Star caliber players in Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, who are both early candidates for MVP of the league. The Nuggets also have great role players like Gary Harris and Will Barton, who provide great defense and shooting. The Nuggets are a team to watch out for in the playoffs and could make a run at the NBA Finals.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers are an American professional basketball team based in Portland, Oregon. The Trail Blazers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The franchise was founded in 1970, and played its home games in Memorial Coliseum before moving to Moda Center in 1995 (called the Rose Garden until 2013). The team has advanced to the NBA Finals three times, winning the NBA championship once in 1977. Their other NBA Finals appearances were in 1990 and 1992.
