Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference is made up of fifteen teams,eight of which come from the Atlantic Division and seven from the Central Division. The Atlantic Division teams are the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and Washington Wizards.

Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets are an American professional basketball team based in the borough of Brooklyn, in New York City. The Nets compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The team plays its home games at Barclays Center. They are one of two NBA teams located in New York City; the other is the New York Knicks.
New York Knicks
The New York Knicks are an American professional basketball team based in the New York metropolitan area. The Knicks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Madison Square Garden, an arena they share with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). They are one of two NBA teams located in New York City; the other is the Brooklyn Nets. Alongside the Boston Celtics, the Knicks are one of two original NBA teams still located in its original city.

Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers (also commonly known as the Sixers) are an American professional basketball team based in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The 76ers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division and play at Wells Fargo Center. Founded in 1946 and originally known as the Syracuse Nationals, they are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA, and one of only eight (out of 23) to survive the league’s first decade.
Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The Raptors play their home games at the Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada.

The Western Conference is made up of fifteen teams, which are the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, and Phoenix Suns.
Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets are an American professional basketball team based in Denver, Colorado. The Nuggets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The team was founded as the Denver Larks in 1967 as a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association (ABA), but changed its name to Rockets before the first season. It changed its name again to the Nuggets in 1974. After nine seasons in the ABA, the Nuggets are one of two ABA teams to have joined the NBA; the New York Nets were also a product of the ABA–NBA merger in 1976.
The team has had some periods of success, qualifying for the ABA Playoffs for all seasons from 1967 to 1977. It won its divisional playoff round 1970. However, it failed to win an ABA championship and is not recognized by the NBA for its accomplishments while a member of that league due to having joined it after it ceased being recognized as a rival league to the NBA. Nevertheless, several players were inducted into either Basketball Hall of Fame or Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame; two Nuggets coaching staffs were also inducted into each respective Hall of Fame after years with other teams: Alex English and Doug Moe with other teams respectively; Dan Issel was also enshrined as a player after his retirement.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors currently sit atop the Western Conference with a 48-21 record. They are two games ahead of the Houston Rockets (46-23) and third-place Denver Nuggets (45-22). As of today, the Warriors are clinched for a playoff berth and are looking to earn the No. 1 seed in the conference.
Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are a professional basketball team in the NBA. The team is based in Houston, Texas, and was founded in 1967. The Rockets play in the Western Conference, and are one of the eight teams that play in the Southwest Division.
Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Clippers were founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, one of three expansion teams to join the NBA that year. The Braves moved from Buffalo, New York to San Diego, California in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers. In 1984, the franchise moved to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Lakers
As of December 18th, 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers are in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 23-3. The Lakers have clinched a playoff berth and are currently on pace to win the conference.
The Lakers are led by superstar LeBron James, who is averaging 25.4 points, 7.7 assists, and 7.5 rebounds per game. Other key players for the Lakers include Anthony Davis, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Kyle Kuzma.
The Lakers are one of the favorites to win the NBA Finals this year, and they will likely be considered the favorite to win the Western Conference once the playoffs start.
