What Teams Are Playing In The Nfl Playoffs?
Contents
It’s that time of year again! The NFL playoffs are upon us and we want to make sure you’re prepared. Here’s a rundown of what teams are playing and when.
AFC Wild Card Teams
The 2019-2020 NFL playoffs are upon us. In the AFC, we have the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, and Baltimore Ravens. These teams have fought tooth and nail all season and it has paid off for them. Who will come out on top?
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocate the franchise to Baltimore.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The Chargers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. They joined the NFL in 1970 as an expansion team, and play their home games at StubHub Center in Carson, California.
NFC Wild Card Teams
The NFC Wild Card teams are the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in Arlington, Texas. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. They are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NFL, having appeared in eight Super Bowls and winning five of them, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers for second place behind only the New England Patriots’ record eleven Super Bowl appearances and six wins. The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive sell-outs. The Cowboys’ streak of 190 consecutive sold-out regular and post-season games began in 2002. Over these two decades, they had one of the best home field advantages in sports and compiled an NFL record 133 regular season wins at home.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks are a professional American football franchise based in Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. They joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team.
The Seahawks are owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and are currently coached by Pete Carroll. Since 2002, the Seahawks have played their home games at CenturyLink Field, located south of downtown Seattle. The Seahawks previously played home games in the Kingdome (1976–1999) and Husky Stadium (1994, 2000–2001).
AFC Divisional Teams
This year’s AFC Divisional teams are the New England Patriots, the Baltimore Ravens, the Houston Texans, and the Kansas City Chiefs. These teams have all worked hard to get where they are and have earned their spot in the playoffs. Let’s take a closer look at each team.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division.
NFC Divisional Teams
The NFL playoffs are upon us and it’s time to find out who’s playing who. In the NFC, we have the Dallas Cowboys taking on the Los Angeles Rams. This should be a good game as both teams have strong defenses. The other NFC Divisional game will be the New Orleans Saints vs. the Minnesota Vikings. This should be a high-scoring game as both teams have great offenses.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The team was founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966. The Saints began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967.
The name “Saints” is an allusion to November 1 being All Saints Day in the Catholic faith, as it was held on that date in 1966, when the expansion franchise was awarded to New Orleans. The team’s primary colors are old gold and black; their logo is a simplified version of the Fleur-de-lis symbol. They played their home games in Tulane Stadium through the 1974 NFL season. The following year, they began a 31-year streak of playing their home games at the Superdome.
Season records of 5–3–1 and 3–11 marked their only winning and losing seasons, respectively, during this period; they would not have another winning season until 1987, and would not record more than seven wins again until 1998 – a string of 24 consecutive non-winning seasons that remains an NFL record today. The Saints posted mostly winning seasons from 1987 to 1992, but never made it further than the NFC Championship Game during that time period; they qualified for the playoffs five times during those six seasons but lost in every appearance except their lone Super Bowl appearance following the 1991 season in which they defeated the Buffalo Bills 31–17 to win their first – and as of 2018 – only Super Bowl championship. In 2002, Hurricane Katrina devastated much of south Louisiana just prior to the start of that year’s regular season; despite playing all but one home game away from New Orleans that year as a result and compiling a 3–13 record for what was then their worst season since 1999, they rebounded under head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees to qualify for the playoffs with an NFC Wild Card berth that season – beginning an unprecedented run of success for both individuals and franchise that continues through 2018: eleven consecutive playoff appearances including six divisional titles starting with their 2006 season
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Rams compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to St. Louis, and were known as the St. Louis Rams from 1995 to 2015. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016, re-joining the NFC West.
The club played their home games at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 1946 to 1979, before moving to Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, California, where they remained until their return to Los Angeles with Super Bowl LIII on February 3, 2019 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium—which they won 13–3 over the New England Patriots—marking their first NFL championship since moving back to Southern California.
