Regular season

The regular season begins in late October and ends in early April. Each team plays 82 games, 41 each home and away.

Playoffs

The first round of the playoffs, or the Conference Quarterfinals, is a best-of-seven series. The first two games are played at the home of the lower-seeded team, the next two at the home of the higher-seeded team, and the remaining games (if necessary) alternate between the two.

The Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals are also best-of-seven series. In the Semifinals, the better seed plays the lowest remaining seed from the first round; and the other Semifinal matches up the remaining two first-round survivors. Home court advantage in these rounds goes to the team with the better regular season record; there is no reseeding.

The NBA Finals is also a best-of-seven series between the winners of the Eastern and Western Conference Finals, with home court alternating between each conference champion each year.

What time do the games start?

The NBA games start at different times depending on the day. For example, on weekdays the games start at 7:00 pm, but on weekends they start at 3:30 pm. The NBA also has different start times for the playoffs and finals.

Playoffs

The first round of the playoffs is a best-of-seven series. The two teams with the best record in each conference (team #1 vs. team #8, team #2 vs. team #7, etc.) will play each other in the first round.

If a series is tied after six games, a seventh and final game will be played to determine the winner. The format for the seventh game is 2-2-1-1-1, meaning that the team with the better record will host games one, two, five and seven (if necessary), while the other team will host games three, four and six (if necessary).
