Introduction
How the Waiver Wire Works in NFL Fantasy Football
In NFL fantasy football, the waiver wire is a system that allows managers to pick up players who are not currently on their roster. These players can be either undrafted or dropped by another owner.
Players who are picked up off of waivers are typically those who have recently had a breakout game or those who are filling in for an injured player.
The waiver wire is a Free Agent Auction (FAAB) system in which each team is given a budget of imaginary money to spend on players they want to add to their roster.
Waiver claims are processed on Tuesdays and the order is determined by inverse order of the standings. So, if you’re in first place, you’ll have your waiver claim processed last, and so forth.
What Time Do Waivers Clear On NFL Fantasy Football?
Waivers clear on NFL Fantasy Football at different times depending on the settings that the commissioner has set for the league. In most cases, waivers will clear at some point during the night after the games have been played. However, there are some commissioners who have set the waivers to clear early in the morning, so it is important to check with your commissioner to find out when they will clear.
Sunday mornings
The vast majority of waiver claims are processed on Sunday mornings, shortly after the early morning games conclude. If you have made a waiver claim for a player that has been cut by another team, you will generally find out whether or not you have been awarded that player by mid-morning on Sunday.
After the games on Sunday
Waivers clear after the games on Sunday. If you make a waiver claim on Tuesday, your waiver will be processed on Wednesday after the games have been played.
Why Does It Matter?

You can add players to your team
At any time during the season, you can add players to your team through the waiver wire. Waivers are basically a process where you can claim players who are not on any team in your league.
For example, say you want to add Davante Adams to your team. If he is not on any team in your league, you can place a waiver claim for him. The waiver wire opens up every week and all the owners in your league can place claims for players.
Once the week is over, the claims are processed and the player goes to the team with the highest waiver priority.
You can improve your team
If you are able to make a waiver claim or two that helps improve your team, it can make all the difference in whether you win or lose your match-up that week. Adding an extra player or two can also help you if you have injuries on your squad and need to fill in some holes.
