Atlantic Time Zone
The Atlantic Time Zone is a geographical region that keeps time by subtracting four hours from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The clock time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 60th meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory.
In general, this zone comprises areas on the eastern seaboard of North America, including parts of Canada, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. During Daylight Saving Time (DST), which occurs from early March until early November each year, the time zone is shifted forward by one hour to UTC-3.
The Atlantic Time Zone is also sometimes referred to as Eastern Time Zone, because it includes the easternmost parts of Canada and the United States. However, this usage is not entirely accurate, since there are other time zones within both countries that are also considered part of the Eastern Time Zone.
Newfoundland Time Zone
The Newfoundland Time Zone is a geographical region that keeps time by subtracting 3.5 hours from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), resulting in UTC-3:30. This time zone is used in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. During Daylight Saving Time (DST), which typically occurs during the summer months, clocks in this zone are turned forward by 1 hour to UTC-2:30.
Newfoundland Time Zone is also commonly referred to by its colloquial name, “Newfie time”. This unofficial term is often used when referring to the time difference between Newfoundland and the rest of Canada, as people from Newfoundland are said to have a reputation for running slightly late.
Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone
The Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone observes Hawaii Standard Time (HST), which is ten hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The time in Hawaii is the same as in most of the Pacific Ocean, but different from the rest of the United States.
The zone includes the U.S. states of Hawaii and part of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands (St. Paul Island and St. George Island). It also includes the unincorporated territories of Midway Atoll and Wake Island, which are both part of the USA but do not observe daylight saving time.
Hawaii Standard Time is also known as “HST” or “Hawaiian Time”. It is not to be confused with “Hawaii-Aleutian Daylight Time” (HADT), which advances HST by one hour during daylight saving time in summer.
Alaska Time Zone
Alaska Time Zone (AT) is a time zone covering parts of western Canada and the United States’s state of Alaska. it uses AKDT (Alaska Daylight Time) in the summer.
UTC−09:00, observed by most of the state of Alaska during standard time
UTC−08:00, during daylight saving time
Arizona Time Zone
The Arizona Time Zone is in the Mountain Time Zone of the United States. The capital city of this time zone is Phoenix.
