SEO Basics

Set up GSC and Bing Webmaster tools

SEO, or “search engine optimization”, is the process of optimizing a website for Google (and other search engines) with the goal of earning higher web traffic levels and improving the visibility of the site.

There are a number of different techniques that can be used in order to improve a website’s SEO, but one of the most important is setting up Google Search Console (GSC) and Bing Webmaster Tools. These tools help you track your website’s progress and performance in the SERPs (search engine results pages), and they can also alert you to any potential issues that need to be addressed.

Here’s a quick overview of how to set up GSC and Bing Webmaster Tools:

Google Search Console
1. Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en
2. Click on the “Add a Property” button
3. Enter your website’s URL into the box that appears
4. Click on the “Continue” button
5. Select the method you want to use to verify your ownership of the site (most people will choose either HTML tag or Domain name provider)
6. Follow the instructions for your chosen verification method
7. Once you have verified ownership, you will be able to access all of the features of GSC

Bing Webmaster Tools
1. Go to https://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster
2. Enter your website’s URL into the box that appears
3. Click on the “Add Site” button
4. Follow the instructions for verifying your ownership of the site (you will need to create a Bing-specific XML file and upload it to your server)
5. Once you have verified ownership, you will be able to access all of the features of Bing Webmaster Tools

Set up Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a free web analytics tool that allows you to measure your website’s traffic and performance. It’s one of the most popular tools on the web, used by millions of sites, including many large companies.

To get started with Google Analytics, you’ll need to create a Google account and then sign up for Analytics. Once you’ve set up your account, you can add the Google Analytics tracking code to your website. This code will collect data about your website’s visitors and their behavior, which you can then view in your Analytics account.

There are a few different ways to add the Google Analytics tracking code to your website, but the easiest way is to use a plugin. If you’re using WordPress, we recommend the GA Google Analytics plugin. This plugin will automatically add the necessary code to your website and make sure it’s always up-to-date.

Once you’ve installed and activated the GA Google Analytics plugin, you can find your tracking code in the Settings -> GA Google Analytics tab. From here, you can either copy and paste the code into your website’s header (best practice), or use the automatic integration option.

If you choose to copy and paste the tracking code into your header, we recommend adding it to a child theme so that it won’t be overwritten when you update your main theme file. You can learn more about child themes in our WordPress child theme tutorial.

Install and configure an SEO plugin (wordpress)

WordPress SEO by Yoast is the most popular SEO plugin for WordPress. It is a comprehensive and easy-to-use solution that covers all the basics of SEO. Yoast’s plugin is available as a free and premium version. The premium version offers additional features, including support, social media optimization, and email support.

In general, we recommend using the free version of Yoast SEO. However, if you want access to the additional features offered in the premium version, you can purchase a license for $89 per year.

Keyword Research

One of the most important parts of SEO is keyword research. You need to find out what people are searching for and then make sure your website appears in the search results. You can use a tool like Google AdWords Keyword Planner to find out what people are searching for.

Identify your competitors

In order to identify your competitors, you will need to first identify your niche. Once you know your niche, you can then begin to identify who your competitors are. You can do this by searching for keywords related to your niche.

For example, if you are in the NFL football niche, you may want to search for keywords such as “NFL Football” or “Football”. These keywords will help you find websites and social media accounts that are talking about the same thing that you are. Once you have found these websites and social media accounts, you can then begin to study them and see what they are doing well and what they could improve upon.

Conduct a keyword gap analysis

In order to find out what terms you should be targeting, you’ll need to conduct a keyword gap analysis. This will tell you what terms your competitors are targeting that you are not.

There are a few different ways to do this. The first is to use a tool like Moz Keyword Explorer. Just enter in your URL and your competitor’s URL and it will show you the keywords they are ranking for that you are not.

You can also do this manually by looking at their website and seeing what terms they are targeting on their pages, in their titles, in their blog posts, etc. Then, compare those to the terms you are targeting. If they are targeting terms that you are not, then that is an opportunity for you to try toRank for those same keywords.

Find your main ‘money’ keywords

To ensure that your website is visible to potential customers, you need to identify and target the right keywords.

What are keywords? Keywords are the terms or phrases that people type into search engines to find what they’re looking for.

For example, if someone wants to find out what time the NFL football game starts tonight, they might type in “what time does the NFL football game start tonight?” into a search engine like Google. In this instance, “what time does the NFL football game start tonight?” is the keyword.

Once you know what keywords your potential customers are using to find products or services like yours, you can use those same keywords (also known as “money keywords”) on your website and in your marketing materials. That way, when people search for those terms, they’ll be more likely to find your business.

How do you find the right keywords? There are a number of keyword research tools available online that can help you identify which keywords are most relevant to your business. Some of these tools are free, while others require a paid subscription.

Once you’ve identified some potential keywords, it’s important to do some further research to see how popular they are and how much competition there is for them. This will help you determine whether or not targeting those keywords is likely to be successful for your business.

Technical SEO

The game is set to start at 8:20 p.m. EST on NBC. If you want to watch it on your computer, you can do so by heading to NBC Sports’ website or by using the NBC Sports App. You can also find the game on fuboTV, Sling TV, Hulu, and YouTube TV.

Leverage “Inspect URL” feature in GSC

One of the most useful features in Google Search Console (GSC) is the “Inspect URL” feature. This allows you to see how Google sees your website. It’s also a great way to find technical SEO issues with your website.

To use this feature, simply enter a URL from your website into the GSC search bar and click “Inspect.” GSC will then show you how Google sees the page.

This is a great way to find technical SEO issues, such as:

-Pages that are not being indexed by Google
-Pages that are not being crawled by Google
-Pages that have errors in the HTML code
-Pages that are slow to load
-Pages that are not mobile-friendly

Ensure your website is mobile-friendly

As more and more people use mobile devices to access the internet, it’s important to make sure your website is optimized for smaller screens. In addition to a responsive design, you can use Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test tool to see how well your site stacks up.

Check your site’s loading speed

If you want to rank high in Google, you need to make sure your pages load quickly. Use Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool to see how well your site is doing. Just enter your URL and wait a few seconds for your results.

You should aim for a score of 85 or higher for both mobile and desktop versions of your site. If you’re not quite there yet, don’t worry. Just work on improving your score little by little. You can find more tips on how to do this in our guide to speed optimization.

On-page and Content

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America, and the highest professional level of American football in the world. NFL games are broadcast on television, radio, and the Internet. The NFL has the highest average attendance of any professional sports league in the world.

Fix duplicate, missing, and truncated title tags

Your title tag is one of the most important on-page SEO elements. It tells both users and search engines what your page is about.

Unfortunately, duplicate, missing, or truncated title tags are a common SEO issue.

Duplicate title tags can occur when multiple pages on your site have the same or similar title tag. This can be a problem because it makes it difficult for users and search engines to distinguish between the pages.

Missing title tags can occur when you forget to add a title tag to a page or if you use improper code. If your title tag is missing, search engines will not know what your page is about and it will be difficult for users to find your page in search results.

Truncated title tags can happen when your title tag is too long or if you use improper code. Truncated title tags can be a problem because they may not give users and search engines enough information about your page.

Find and fix duplicate or missing meta descriptions

If you want your website to rank well in search engines, you need to make sure that all of your pages have unique and relevant meta descriptions. A meta description is the short description that appears under your page title in the search results.

If you have duplicate or missing meta descriptions, it can hurt your website’s search engine ranking. You can use a tool like Screaming Frog to find and fix duplicate or missing meta descriptions.

Find and fix multiple H1 tags

If you want your website to rank higher in search engine results pages, then you need to focus on two key SEO factors: on-page and content. On-page SEO refers to all the factors on your website that influence your ranking, from your title tags to your meta descriptions. Content SEO, on the other hand, refers to the quality and keyword density of the content on your website.

One common issue that can hurt your chances of ranking high is having multiple H1 tags on your pages. In most cases, you should only have one H1 tag per page – this is often referred to as the “H1 rule.” The H1 tag is the HTML code that defines the largest headline on a page, and it’s used by search engines to understand what a page is about.

If you have more than one H1 tag on a page, it can confuse search engines and hurt your chances of ranking high. To fix this issue, simply find all the H1 tags on your website and remove all but one. If you’re not sure how to find and change HTML code, reach out to a web developer or designer for help.

Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO is the process of optimizing a website for higher search engine rankings through the improvement of external factors. This is in contrast to on-page SEO, which refers to optimizing website content for higher rankings. Some of the most important factors for off-page SEO include social signals, backlinks, and brand mentions.

The first step is to take a look at your competitor’s link profile and see where their backlinks are coming from. You can use a tool like Moz’s Open Site Explorer to get started.

Once you have a list of potential link sources, it’s time to start reaching out and building relationships. Try to find ways to connect with the people who run these sites and see if there’s any way you can contribute to their content. If you can offer something valuable, they’ll be more likely to link to your site.

In addition to reaching out to potential link sources, you should also focus on building up your own site’s authority. One way to do this is byGuest posting on other blogs in your industry. This will not only help you get exposure to a new audience, but it will also help you build up your credibility as an expert in your field.

Remember, off-page SEO is all about building relationships and establishing yourself as an authority in your industry. By taking the time to analyze your competitor’s link profile and reaching out to potential link sources, you’ll be well on your way to improving your own site’s ranking in the search engines.

There are a variety of ways to conduct a link intersect analysis, but one of the simplest is to use Google Sheets. Once you have a list of competitor domains, simply create a new sheet and enter each domain in a separate column. Then, in the first row of each column, enter the following formula:

=COUNTIF(A:A,”*”&A1&”*”)

Replace “A” with the column letter of the competitor domain you are checking and “A1” with the cell reference of that competitor’s domain. For example, if your competitor domains were in columns A through D, your formulas would look like this:

=COUNTIF(A:A,”*”&A1&”*”)
=COUNTIF(B:B,”*”&B1&”*”)
=COUNTIF(C:C,”*”&C1&”*”)
=COUNTIF(D:D,”*”&D1&”*”)
After you’ve entered the formulas, your sheet should look something like this:

A B C D
1 Competitor 1 Domain =COUNTIF(A:A,”*”&A1&”*”) =COUNTIF(B:B,”*”&B1&”*) =COUNTIF(C:C,”*”&C1&”*) =COUNTIF(D::D,”*”&D1*)
2 Competitor 2 Domain =COUNTIF(A:A,”*”&A2&”*) =COUNTIF(B:B,”*”.B2.*) =COUNTIF(c::c,”c2*) =countif(d::d,d2*)

Link building is one of the most important aspects of SEO, but it can be time-consuming and difficult to do yourself. A quick and easy way to get high-quality backlinks is to target your competitor’s broken links.

There are a few different ways to find your competitor’s broken links. One way is to use a crawler like Screaming Frog. Another way is to use a link analysis tool like ahrefs.

Once you have a list of your competitor’s broken links, reach out to the website owners and let them know. Most website owners will be happy to add your link as a replacement for their broken link.

This method is quick, easy, and effective, and it can help you get the high-quality backlinks that you need to improve your SEO.
