Arkansas hit a pair of solo homers in the first two innings and held on to defeat Texas Tech 3-1 Friday night in the opener of a three-game Big 12 series at Lupton Stadium.
The Razorbacks (28-16, 9-11) got on the board in the bottom of the first when right fielder Dominic Fletcher led off with a home run to right field. It was Fletcher’s fifth homerun of the season and gave Arkansas an early 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, left fielder Heston Kjerstad extended Arkansas’ lead to 2-0 with a leadoff homerun to left field. It was Kjerstad’s 11th homerun of the season and his second in as many games.
Texas Tech (27-18, 10-10) got on the board in the top of the third inning when center fielder Cody Masters hit a solo homerun to left field, cutting Arkansas’ lead to 2-1.
Arkansas added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning when third baseman Casey Martin hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Kole Ramage from second base and giving the Razorbacks a 3-1 lead.
That would be all the scoring either team would do as Arkansas held on for 3-1 win.
